I am a recent bachelor and am fixing up my home entirely. I really found out that I am terrible at it but am trying. The living, dining, kitchen and family room are all kind of connected in my two story home. I painted light neutral colors that look pretty good I think (bhr paint - desert rose and Day Spa are the color names). I just ordered really nice cabinets (I hope) that are called "shaker honey spice" which is a lighter oak. Should my new wood laminate floor be a bit darker than the cabinets? Can anyone suggest a good laminate or color that would be decent. I really dont like the darker woods but in between is ok.
Any help is appreciated as I am struggling with this whole decorating thing!!

My name is Sarah. Maybe that will inspire you.

Obviously if the name is chosen you will have no claim to it. I'm not sure why but I fel like this needed to be said.

Bedroom Walls ? Mine's pink to generate warmth and peacefulness. I am told that blue makes the room feel cold and green suggests serenity. Has anyone changed their bedroom colour with any logic like this behind it?

We want to add a small, simple bathroom on our main floor. It would be right next to the kitchen (there's a wall seperating the kitchen and the room where we plan on putting the bathroom). The upstairs and basement bathrooms are right above and below the kitchen. My dad is a construction worker and will add the walls and other things. I just want to know the price to have a plumber put the piping for a sink and toilet. We're in the process of toilet training our daughter and we don't want it to be too much of hassle for her to go upstairs because they are very deep stairs and because it'll increase her chances of not making it to the toilet on time.

What is the technique of putting stucco on a brick house. Do you put the stucco over the brick, or remove the brick and start from the begining?

The terms "Mid Century Modern" and "Hollywood Regency" both relate to the same periods of time and to design. Some of the elements and designers overlap or "crossover". My listings for Milo Baughman Tables were pulled by Ebay, because of the term "Hollywood Regency" in the titles. I believe that my chrome and marble Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin tables were well represented by this term and that the actions of Ebay were wrong (not to mention costing me at least $550.00, the current bids with 5 days left, when they stopped my auction). I feel a little self conscience and selfish bringing up such a narrow topic, for my first communication on this blog, but no one at Ebay listens or answers. Thanks for your insight and answers.

My wife and I are interesting in purchasing our first home. Its a typical first "starter" home that needs to be updated (built in the 50's and kind of left then).

There is the washer and dryer in the kitchen, which we aren't big on. What's involved in moving the pair into the basement, which is directly under the kitchen?

The cabinets are outdated and need to be changed out. The old tiles are 12 x 12 in the kitchen and our agent said that they might be asbestos...can we put laminate over these without worrying about getting asbestos released??

Thanks!

If you all have any additional thoughts on redoing our first home, please feel free to let us know.

Our cabinets are white, the counter-top is a black/dark gray. Our floor is a light/medium wood laminate. We have all stainless-steel appliances. There is a backsplash that covers the walls from the counters to the cabinets that is tiled in darker colors; grays, black, greens, and a beige/orange/yellow.

I cannot decide what color would look best. I love the outdoors, I have pictures of leaves hanging as sort of a theme. I guess the best way to describe the color in there now is a mustardy color. I would like to stick with the trendiest colors, while being very comfortable and inviting.

I'm looking for one of those things that are like bookshelves but are made so you can put knick-knacks and other things on them. I want the kind with glass doors. Is that what curio cabinet means? I've also read the term accent cabinet. Is that the same?

We have 100 sq ft (kitchen ) to be tiled. THe tiles are $1.79, have no idea how much the other materials cost. Were getting it done at what I think is a deal for $800 Total (includes everything). This is from a small one many company. We had other quote from big companies, Empire flooring said $2,300, and Carpet exchange said around $1,200.
Just wondering how much it should be.
Thanks

I want something for my entire downstairs that covers the living room, family room and kitchen which are all kind of connected. I want something kind of glossy that looks like wood with a grain. I also need to do stairs with it. I want something durable (AC4) that will withstand scratch and minor moisture. Does it exist? Please dont say Pergo..I have checked out that brand and really think its inferior and your paying for the name. Any help or places to purchase, websites etc would be appreciated.
