I'm trying to work with a comforter set given to us by my Mother-in-Law. It's a pretty dark blue and grayish blue pattern, kind of a grand floral design. Very elegant. The bedskirt and sheets are a darkish gray blue and white. Our headboard and furniture is a medium cherry wood.

I always wanted to paint our room a deep burgundy, but I think it'll look weird with the bedding. I think painting the walls white is too boring and blue just seems like it would be "blue-overkill". The hall that leads to our room is a muted "army" green. The doors and trim are white. Haven't picked window treatments yet.

Suggestions??? I'm very open to ideas. Maybe even wall paper? Please give me ideas......the room is currently painted a light lime green and we can't handle much longer.......

I have been wanting to starch fabric to the walls of my drab apartment and wanted to start in the bathroom, but I realized this morning that it might not work very well in the humidity over the shower. Has anyone tried this or know if it will work? I would really love to do it but not if it is just going to start peeling on me in a weeks worth of morning showers.

I have heard you need to routes of egress when you have a basement bedroom. Do the stairs to the upstairs count as one? The basement in our future home has windows that open downstairs, but they are only big enough for an average sized person to squeeze out of. The basement is also a walk out basement - would that door count as a 2nd exit? Or do you think we'd have to get larger windows?

It does not matter if it is just the color of the blankets, whatever you think. I am a procrastinator and my due date is coming quicker and quicker. Right now, it is just an empty room. So any ideas that you have will be welcome.

We are in the process of remodeling my daughter's bedroom. She wants light yellow walls and white furniture. I know that when you have old walls (we bought a very old house), you have to prime over the bad stains and I know that to cover dark furniture I have to prime before painting white. But what about......

new sheetrock?

old white furniture that needs a fresh paint job?

unfinished wicker chairs?

If it were up to me, I would prime everything, but my husband disagrees. PLEASE HELP!

OH - and regardless of priming or not, do you always have to sand before you paint?? Like even for the fresh paint over old paint?

Thanks!

My cabinets are white with brushed nickel hardware. All other walls are done with southwest texture (Adobe) and some red brick (looks like it is falling off of wall). What color would you paint all the walls to blend with the red? It can't be too dark, not much light.

I just purchased my 1st home and I am having a hard time decorating. The floors are all hardwood and I will need area rugs in the bedrooms. I know what colors I would like to use but I am having a hard time deciding which should I purchase 1st. Should I buy the area rug 1st and then the bedding/ curtains or vice versa. I would hate to purchase the bedding/curtains and can't find the area rugs to match. What do you recommend? Thanks

I just bought a bedset for college. The design is perfect (I'm very picky about my bed stuff) but the thread count is only 200. The comforter and sheets are rather scratchy. Is there anything I can do to make them softer?

I have never seen tile like this, but it is very pretty. My son's friend moved into a house that was previously remodeled. A lot of brand new floor tile was left in garage. The friend gave this tile to my son to give to my husband and I since they found out we were building an addition to our house. Lucky for us! The floor tile looks like four tiles in a long row. It is one tile across. It is faux ceramic tile, sort of feels like hard plastic to the touch. The four snap to the next four and so on. It is called a "floating floor." Does this mean no glue? Do we put some sort of thin foam pad under it or what? There is only one way the tiles will snap together, we just want to do it right. None of our friends have seen this flooring before. We were given enough to do about three rooms. Anyone have any suggestions or "know how?" Sorry, I don't know the proper name for this kind of flooring. But thanks for any help!

So I am a 16 year old girl and I am re-doing my child-ish room.
I was thinking of making my new room have a french cafe-type theme, but I need some help with this. I was thinking of painting all the furniture black and have the walls white except for an accent wall which would be hot pink and a small wall be a chalkboard wall [paint it with chalkboard paint]. In one of the corners I would like to have a wrought iron circular table and a wrought iron chair.

Ifyou have any suggestions (positive or negative) about my ideas up there ^^^, please leave an answer. Or if you have another idea of a theme for my room, leave an answer! Pictures are definately welcome! Thanks so much!

I want to color 2 walls dark green and the 2 others light green. Like a mint green. Have any of you seen this and if so, would you recommend these 2 colors together?? I'm just curious what others think. - Also, FYI, the floor will be hardwood in a medium brown (not too light not to dark).
