It does not matter if it is just the color of the blankets, whatever you think. I am a procrastinator and my due date is coming quicker and quicker. Right now, it is just an empty room. So any ideas that you have will be welcome.

light pink and chocolate brown with yellow accents, it's so pretty and in all the stores now, no need to go overboard, the new baby won't notice for awhile, so take your time. stuffed animals, pink elephants and brown puppies and go to walmart or target and get some cute prints for the wall.

I unfortunately had two boys - so I did not get the pleasure of decorating for a girl...but had big plans if I did.

I would have a room that was painted pink for the main color. Second color would be white, for the furniture and fixtures.

I would have put up a small pink chandlier over the crib, lots of tulle on the wall, over the crib, making a princess like effect. The furniture would be white, and antique if available. Crib, 2 bookcases, an old dressing table and rocker.

Decorations would be vintage baby/toddler, such as old books, framed illustrations from vintage childrens books, Simple plush animals. Old hooks painted white could hold things like blankets that I might want to grab in the middle of the night to warm up in while tending those midnight feedings.

**********

My first nursary was done in Precious Moments and I painted the walls and ceiling blue, with a cloud border at the ceiling/wall joint. I used an opaque projector to project Precious Moments pics from a coloring book onto the walls (all were of angles sitting on clouds). I had the one dropping hearts like she was dropping them into the crib, two were on phones - one on each side of the room, and the last was holding a sign. (When you project the images on the wall, just trace lines with pencil and fill in with acrylic paint from the local craft store.) I made bedding to match. I missed that room when we moved. This room could have just as easily been for a girl (which I had hoped would follow).

Hope this all helps!

I would do red and white gingham with a few black accents

Babies really like high contrasting items, so black and white patterns are their favorite things to look at besides human faces.

Red is the first color they can "see."

With the red and white, you could do a ladybug theme. Or just about anything. Plus, it could grow with her pretty easily.
You might paint the walls mostly white, but maybe have one red wall . . .

For the type of paint - make sure you do water based paints, because they are the healthiest for you, your baby, and the environment.

I highly recommend General Finishes - http://www.generalfinishes.com

Click on their water based page, then look at their milk paint choices. They have a snow paint and a red pepper that would be perfect for this.

However, if you choose to go the pink and brown route, they have some excellent choices there, too!

If you have a favorite children's book, it might be cool to get color copies of the pages (whole book, special pages, or just nice illustrations). Frame and hang them. Then, use the book as a reference for a couple of colors for paint and bedding. Simple but unique! Eric Carle and Dr. Seuss books would be a great place to start!

If you have a Kohl's near you, you might check and see what children's books and stuffed animals they have for their benefit right now... You could get the pictures from the books and use the stuffed animals for decoration. They are usually pretty cheap AND you'd be supporting a good cause.

If you're feeling nostalgic, you might browse through a flea market or antique store. You might be inspired by a vintage toy, lamp, lunchbox, etc... That one item could be a decoration, and you could coordinate colors and decorations.

If you have a favorite color, you might just look for bedding, decorations, and paint colors in various shades of that color. It will all come together in the end. My sister loved some deep red bedding that she had seen in a Pottery Barn Kids catalog, and we decorated my niece's nursery in a similar color... Once the bedding arrived, though, it was a coral and not deep red. It looked funny. Once we added pink sheets and framed pieces of pink, red, and/or coral scrapbooking papers, everything came together.

Go to your local craft store and brouse the scrapbook papers. Hobby Lobby has great designs and beautiful colors. One cool sheet of paper could be your inspiration.

Good luck and have fun! Eventually, she'll want to pick everything for her room!

1] pick the first baby girl color that comes to mind, after pink. Ask your husband to do the same. Design room around those colors!
2] Or, find a crib set you really like. Paint walls one of the lightest colors, and make rug one of the darker colors. Match curtains to walls or bedding.
3] Keep in mind, this baby will outgrow this room rapidly. Sometimes, you can get a twin bed set in same coordinates
for when baby gets older. Also they have cribs that can convert to a youth bed.
4] Don't get furniture that screams 'baby' - get some dressers, chest of drawers, bookcase she can grow with!
5] get her name in fabric or painted letters one of the medium shades of crib set.
6] make a wall border of:
[ first wall ] Now I lay me down to sleep
[ second ] I pray the Lord my soul to keep
[ third ] God watch over me through the night
[ fourth ] And wake me with the morning light
or any other verses, phrases, songs, etc.: thank heaven for little girls, sugar and spice and everything nice, or something with her name in it.
Don't forget a great rocker with footstool for night feedings, and a light with a dimmer so she eats, and goes back to sleep.

I always said that if I had a baby girl I would do her nursery in fairies. I think fairies and pixies are sooo cute. The colors would be lilac purple and mint green. There is a wallpaper border I found on ebay that gave me the idea. Try and find it if you like the idea. It may give you the idea.
