We own a rent house which has oak hardwood flooring throughout most of the house. About a year ago, we hired a local hardwood floor company to sand, stain and seal the floors. The floors looked great when we rented out the house. Our renters moved out last week and when we walked in, we were horrified to see black streaks in every room. The black marks all seemed to bleed outward of anywhere wood filler was used on the floors (the house is almost a hundred years old, so there were a lot of cracks to fill). We are bringing the floor company back out to look at the damage, but in the meantime, I'd like to get an objective opinion. The only areas that this did not happen were where there were large pieces of furniture, causing us to believe it was a cleaning agent that may have done this. Also the tennent had 2 dogs, but we don't think any dog could urinate over that much area. Does anyone know what could have caused this and if it can be repaired?

I know I can paint or refinish my doors, but the cabinet around it seems to have that inexpensive old wood lamination, can I some how paint that, then do my doors a contrasting color, as they have insets, then do some nice handles. How would I go about this?

Just had my bathroom re-modeled and I noticed something with the new wiring that I wanted to ask before I called the contractor.

Just had my bathroom remodeled and the contractors installed a new outlet (where none existed prior) next to the sink. To do so, they ran a new line directly from the circuit box in the basement and snaked it up to the second floor following (I'm assuming) the main plumbing pipe. I was in the garage and I noticed that the plumbing pipe is exposed in the garage as it goes from the basement to the 2nd floor and hence the new wiring is also exposed as it makes its way to the 2nd floor. My question is - was this the correct way to be installed? If not, is it a problem? Also, is there an easy remedy with out having to rip apart any of the remodel?
Thanks

Hello, I am getting ready to buy my first home (23 yrs old). It's a 2 bedroom 800 sq ft brick home with a full unfinished basement. I would like to put up a room, about 12x12 in the basement so I can bring in a roomate to help with the bills. I think I only need to put up two walls (using the corner of the basment for the other two walls). Any advice on how to go about starting this project, including cost, can I do it myself, what I may need, ect.... Thanks

I power washed down the house first and used a good quality paint to paint over the existing surface. It almost appears that the paint I used was two differnt shades? 3 each 5 gallon pails...... house had not been painted for like 20 years and didn't use primer. Actually painted some areas 2X and some spots are darker than others? Used good airless sprayer too...... just plain WEIRD~~~~??? any suggestions or help??
Thanks,

We will be tiling our bathroom floor a job we have done before on our upstairs bathroom.
When you reset the toilet do you caulk around the bottom of the toilet, or is there something else to use? I only ask because hubby has to redo the upstairs around the toilet, because he didn't caulk around it at the bottom, and now when my boys go to the bathroom, well it's not pretty around and under the toilet, and cleaning under that small gap is not easy either.

I feel this will be a really silly question, but ere goes. I've just bought a pair of pebcil pleat curtains and curtain hooks (white plastic). The rail has little loops that can be moved along it, but where does this connect to the curtains, as I can connect the hook to the loop ok, but I'm lost as to how it gets attached to thick band on the curtain itself. Can anyone help or guide me towards a visual demonstration please????

I am looking for a site that sells small triangular rugs to stick on individual metal stairs on an indoor spiral staircase. Mine is metal and hard and cold and it has ridges that hurt my feet if I do not have shoes on. Maybe I can cut my own from some rug fabric and padding? How would I make it stick and be sure it is safe and won't slip? We rent and it can not be permanant. Ideas? Help! Thank you!
