i eventually want to do all three of these things. in what order should i do them in order to maximize my return on investment in the event i had to move and sell before i completed all three things? there is currently a fireplace now but it is ugly painted white brick and want to replace it with a floor to 5 foot high mantle with granite worked in and a gas fireplace log set. the whole cost of that job would be 5k. i have read that fireplaces add more value as far as home improvements go than any other improvement.

the current kitchen was from the 1960s and redoing that with granite countertops and new cabinets and tile and a new fridge and oven would probably be 10k-15k for the quality we wanted.

adding a bathroom to the basement would change the house from 1 to 2 baths and would probably cost about 5k for the level of quality we wanted.

how should i order these projects?

Lower heat output? Lower electric bills? Too expensive? Compactness?

Do you want to switch over but just can't afford them?

My friend referred me to this guy for 2 small bathroom remodels and vouches for him and his work. However, he's not licensed, but he's cutting me a deal and his bid is much lower than the other estimates I've gotten. Any suggestions when dealing with an unlicensed, uninsured contractor? Thanks!

I bought several items from "Rooms to Go", thus far, everything has been fine. But, I am running into a problem with their delivery policy.

They assigned me a delivery time (note, it was "assigned", I wasn't given a chance to ask for a time) that was inconvenient. When I called to ask them to move the delivery time or reschedule the delivery for the next day, I was told that if I couldn't be home at the assigned time, I would have to wait over 2 weeks before I would get my furniture! Basically, they would give my furniture to someone else and I would have to wait for my order to be refilled.

I understand a lot of this has to do with inventory control, but when you have spent a couple of thousand on a piece of furniture AND paid for the cost of delivery, it seems they could be a little more flexible.

Hi, Just built a new house, and let husband pick the color for the walls. He is very traditional and choose, Antique White (throughout house). The walls of course after three weeks show up every handprint. I want to paint my walls in my living area, a sage green, my chairs are a willow green, and couch is a mix of Burgendy, Browns, and golds. My trim on the windows are white. I just custom ordered Hunter Douglas Honeycomb shades in color Moss Green. I have hard wood floors, color - Honey Oak, and Oak furniture color Golden Pecan. Can someone please help me turn my long narrow windows into wider looking windows, and recommend a color and style curtains..drapes. My windows are 33 X 95 inches. OR the best window treatments, I do not wish to cover up my pretty shades. THANKS

from woodwork. Scraping sucks, sandpaper? Paint thinner? I am painting all rooms and there's paint on the wood trim. I have always used painters tape to prevent this.

Most newer designs show a wall color with white trim. My home is kinda old. I want to add some color to the walls that are all eggshell white right now, but I am afraid to because all of the trim thru out is a darker wood stain. Would it look tacky? I can't afford to replace all the trim and I'm sick of white walls. All suggestions appreciated. Thank you.
