When people want to shop for a futon bed, the concept they had in mind slightly varies. For example, they may search for "futon bed", "futon bed mattress", "futon bunk bed" or "futon sofa bed". Put it simply, futon bed could be a bed with a futon mattress and a metal frame or even a bunk bed. Other than the function of a bed, it can also be used as a sofa and that is why it has attracted so many people today.

Most of the time, you can place your futon bed in the living room and use it as a couch. If there are guests staying over night, you can unfold it and make it a futon bed. So actually a futon bed is a also a futon sofa and it is great for pepole with limited budget.

Either can be more or less comfortable depending on the mattress. Any kind of mattress that can go on a bed is available as a futon mattress. Personally, I'd vote futon for the sleeping space. A full size folds up to the space of a daybed, but lets out bigger.

I agree -- a daybed. I thought the futon was a great idea; I loved how cute it looked when it folded up and I love everything oriental, etc. Unfortunately, I never really slept on it myself until after I got married and I started having trouble sleeping!! Now I spend at least 2-3 nights a week regretting my decision. Thankfully, I've just talked my husband into switching to a daybed, since we now have a regular once a month guest coming over. YEAH!!

Definitely a day bed. Futons have that big bar in them that you can feel through the cushion. They're ok for over-night guests, but every day use would be awful!

It would really depend on how good the mattress is on the day bed or the futon. If you're on a budget get the day bed.

daybed if you buy a good mattress. but if your on a tight budget then go with a futon. but the good mattress will cost you alot more than going with a good mattress for a twin. and alot of day beds are short.. make sure and take that into consideration.

Daybed has a real mattress. If you are really tall, you'll probably want a futon.

Hands down, a day bed! You can also go to any store that sells beds, they should have both and you can lay down on both of them in the show room.
