The bottom half of my kitchen wall is a deep dark purple, separated by a grape border, and then the top a soft yellow. I now want to paint the soft yellow over the dark purple. How do I stop the purple from bleeding thru? When it comes to these things, I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

I've been investigating this topic for our home renovation but can't seem to get a clear recommendation on any of these options:

- Roof options: Gable, Flat, etc
- Material: Shingles, Tile, Metal, etc

If there isn't one ideal choice, what are the trade-offs between each option?

Greatly appreciate your help. Thanks.

I have a one story, 2000 sq ft home with three bedrooms and two baths. I'm thinking of taking up ALL the carpet and putting down Pergo type hardwood floors, even in the kitchen, but not the bathrooms or laundry room.

Anybody have any idea what this might cost me, and does anybody have any praise or regrets on having done this already?

You see it on HGTV and elswhere on TV. "Upgrade your kitchen and recoup 98% of the investment!" "Repaint the exterior and recoup 120% of the investment!" The list goes on. Has anyone actually checked to see if you really do recoup home improvement investment in the form of higher resale value? How can you really be sure, because it's not like you actually get two appraisals from an appraiser, one for before improvement and the other for after improvement. Or is this a conspiracy by home centers?

I'm looking for non-toxic, inexpensive, easy-to-work-with paint for a mural in my son's bedroom. Is latex the best? If so, how can I keep it from peeling when I use painter's tape? Any other suggestions?

There are 3 pairs of red & black wires coming out of the wall where a previous light socket was. I have installed lights before, however in this case there are more wires than required. In the previous light fitting the red wires were all contacting each other in one socket, two black wires where in another socket and the third was in its own.

How should I spread the wires across the new fitting, in the crimp? I have three sockets available (one for earth). Should I group the three red wires in one socket and the three blacks in one socket? Or should I put one pair of wires in two sockets i.e one red wire in one socket and one black in the other socket (one earth) and then tape the other wires up, individually, and shove them back into the wall?

Thanks for any advice you may have.

We're getting new cabinetry in a kitchen with Pergo floors (Brunswick Cherry color) and white appliances. Should we get off-white cabinetry (swiss coffee color) or wood grain? Which wood would be best? My brother (who is making the cabinets) suggested alder with a dark stain, but would that look funny with white appliances? Is a white kitchen not in style any more at all? Will wood grain get me more market value on the home over white? Thanks!

The chairs and table have the paint peeling off like the skin from a sunburn. (And yes, I stripped it, sanded it, primed it). I did the EXACT same thing on a different project last month, and the finish turned out rock solid and beautiful on THAT one. The only difference between the two projects was the paint brand.

So, is it the humidity? Crappy paint?....
