I have a one story, 2000 sq ft home with three bedrooms and two baths. I'm thinking of taking up ALL the carpet and putting down Pergo type hardwood floors, even in the kitchen, but not the bathrooms or laundry room.

Anybody have any idea what this might cost me, and does anybody have any praise or regrets on having done this already?

I have a 2048 sq.ft., 3BR, with pergo in my hall, kitchen, and DR. I put carpet in the BR's, and vinyl flooring in my baths, and laundy. I love it!! I wanted the floors in the BR's to be warmer(hence the carpet). You do need to consider the pets toenails before you decide. They tend to slip and slide. And I watched a show where a dog was scared to walk on wood flooring.!?

It really depends how handy you are. If you can make a straight cut and hammer some nails, then you can definately do it yourself and save a ton of money. Laminate flooring will rund anywhere from $1.50 - $4.00 per sq foot if you install. Depending on your location, installation will be an additional $3-4 per square.

I did my dining room, hallway, living room and bedroom, using a product called bi-wood. Unlike pergo, it is all wood and definately looks better. It cost me $1.89 per sq.

I hope this helps

Well, there's no real way to figure cost. These are some of the factors controling cost:
1. are you going to do it or have it done?
2. cost of flooring/different purchase places/different costs/buying it wholesale(costco or sams)/buying from the installer
3. rule of thumb for quantity: square footage of area to cover plus 10 to 25%(this depends on your/their level of compency and layout of area to cover(some are more wasteful than others)
4. if you're in a dusty environment or have pets you'll probably LOVE it. personally, I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
5. it also depends on the floor you're putting it on. slab or wood/ either way it needs to be level

I used Pergo in my kitchen and loved it. It's not as warm and cozy as carpet for a bedroom but it is easy to care for and durable.
