We're getting new cabinetry in a kitchen with Pergo floors (Brunswick Cherry color) and white appliances. Should we get off-white cabinetry (swiss coffee color) or wood grain? Which wood would be best? My brother (who is making the cabinets) suggested alder with a dark stain, but would that look funny with white appliances? Is a white kitchen not in style any more at all? Will wood grain get me more market value on the home over white? Thanks!

The showrooms are pushing the wood look and do so to encourage sales. Every year they make dramatic changes to the "look" of cabinetry so that homeowner's remodeling see the need to "update" their look. Yes, the white/off white/cream cabinetry look hasn't been popular for the last few years as the manufacturer's are coming up with new finishes and glazes. I've seen vignettes with the alder wood stained dark with cherry wood flooring and that is really a sophisticated, high end, elegant look. No, your white appliances won't look bad, but the manufacturer's are really pushing the stainless steel look with that wood combination. In the end, you have to decide the look that appeals to you. Check out the vignettes in stores around you like Expo Design, Bardon, Standard Brands, even Lowes and Home Depot. Then check out model homes in your area. There you will see the cutting edge in kitchen design and decide what will appeal to your design sensibility.

Wood grain cabinets would be best with the pergo floors you described. I do believe the walls should be painted a color. If you have an eat in kitchen, let the table and chairs be an antique white, or have something else in your kitchen done in the antique white to bring the color white around the kitchen in order to have the appliances fit in nicely.

I redid my kitchen 5 years ago and chose white cabinets. I had a wood floor too. The look was clean, and cheerful and bright but not too cozy. I do believe wood is more "the thing" now but it depends on the look you want: rich and warm, or clean and crisp. If you do chose wood, go with cherry.

I have used oil depending and a latex on kitchen shelves through the years. Oil depending can take better banging previously marking, yet takes longer to remedy (no longer dry..remedy) previously that is difficult adequate no longer to mark. i love oil in accordance to trim for an identical reason. maximum gained't accept as true with you because there is this kind of turn faraway from this paint. i develop into pleased with both paints, even if the latex chipped a lot previous to the oil depending. I do discover you could contact up latex significantly better than oil depending. i ought to represent you imagine about the end to even if you choose a glossier sheen or no longer on your cupboard. there develop into one suggestion of creating use of a proper coat over latex..I have had no adventure with this, so that you may choose to analyze that decision too because it ought to ok be merely as solid because the oil depending without each and each and every of the fumes and sticky texture paint to attend to.
