I recently purchased a black furniture set including bed frame, computer desk, shelves and night stand. I am going for a mature, calm look. Nothing too colourful or crazy. I was thinking a calm tone of green. Help please!

I'm installing 6 recessed lights in my living room. I really would like to stay away from the parameter walls as much as possible. Once I get the wire to the first fixture and on the way to other fixtures...... can I cross the joists by simply creating a notch (where the ceiling drywall meets the joists) run my wire and cover with with nail plate and drywall? IS this up to code? I've seen it done to studs so why not to joists?

I need to paint my room. 3 parts of the wall consists of cement walls and the other one is wood. There's old paint on it already. It's not chipping yet but it has crayola stains. Now If I was to repaint these walls, what would be the best approach to do so? Do I just paint over everything or slap wall putty 1st then sand it and paint it? Profesional advice please.

About 2 weeks ago we had a horrible ice storm and lost electricity for 2 days. When our electricity came back on we started back in our daily routines. The day after we got our power back I noticed when I ran the washing machine the toilets would gurgle. Just yesterday both toilets would not flush. I noticed one of the sprinkler heads seems to be damaged a bit also. Who do I call to get it taken care of. My husband called a plumber today and he said they don't do that kind of thing. Thanks for your help.

I stupidly bought a PosterPedic full size mattress at about 1000 dollars a few months ago. Now I want to upgrade to a queen size bed but I still have a few payments left on my other very expensive mattress. The only real reason I want to get rid of it is because it's just too small and king won't fit in my bedroom. What can I do with this used mattress? It's in perfect condition and I'll even throw in my canopy bed frame if I can find a way to get rid of in without losing too much money.

ok in my front yard we have a "sinkhole" my dad believes its from where they had burried the electric cables and didnt do a good job of compaction (since a few feet away their is an about 5 feet long line of dirt sunk in 3-4in.) but anyway we have tried to fix the hole by putting rocks in it and dirt and a little bit later it gets bigger and its right near the street! the hole currently is about 2 feet wide not sure how deep but it is rather deep and its filled with grass. our Tractor has gotten stuck in it before but we now try to avoid it. and not sure if it matters but i live on a fairly steep hill in NC.

what i'd like to know
1. what are steps to fix this properly (prefably a do-it-yourself not hiring anyone)
2. is this dangerous.
3. anymore help or experience or personal stories of such holes

Thanks in advance Everyone!!

My Vaillant Ecomax 824E Boiler has gone on the blink: no hot water or heating!!!!!!!!!

Help!

The fault code F05 is flashing on the screen!

What do I need to do to solve the problem myself!

Please don't advise me to ring up someone to help - I don't have the money. (it is outside of the 7 year free service and maintenance period)

Cheers.

Me and my boyfriend are getting a house here in the near future. We decided it needed the follwing upgrades:

Hardwood floors (or laminate that LOOKS like hard wood) in the living room and hallways

Laminate in the kitchen

New carpet on the stairs to the basement

New countertops

& paint.

If you know anything about this could you please give me a rough estimate? I don't know very many details obviously...just trying to see how much money we are going to have to spend on this.

Thank you so much!!
