My baby is due at the end of Jan and I want to have a sow a seed so it grows up with the baby. My friend is 30 and has a cactus that was planted on his birth which I think is a nice idea.
I need something that will last for years and years, not grow too big and be suitable for a pot as we intend to move house in several years time.
This is for the uk.
I could go with a cactus but would appreciate any other ideas

Thanks.

I'm trying to hang a picture on a sheet rocked wall and I keep hitting something behind the sheet rock that "rejects" my nail. It is not a wooden stud. My nail kind of "bounces" off this stuff and cannot be pounded into this stuff no matter how hard I pound. I've had this same trouble in an apartment wall and was able to get a screw through the "stuff". I'm just wondering what is this "stuff" and why can't I penatrate it with a nail...

Tonight while walking out onto the front porch of my house, I was attacked by dozens of tiny black insects. Looking down on the porch, they were everywhere. Jumping similar to fleas as we watched them. The closest animals to us is next door, who have 4 dogs. Is this fleas or what? Any help would be appreciated. One more note, it has been raining and the porch is damp.

Hi, I am hoping someone can advise what is wrong with my fridge? It is a Maytag Side x Side with Ice Maker and the fridge is leaving either ice or condensation in the top vegetable/meat compartment, depending on how cool I make it. I cannot get it right so no ice or condensation appears. Can someone please help? Thanks a million. Lea

I just built a house this fall, and moved in October. For a couple of weeks now, i have noticed the water from my upstairs bathroom sink is now stinking like rotten eggs. What is wrong? I don't have a well....and I have only lived there for 3 months, but the smell only started about 3 weeks ago, so it can't be the water or it would have always smelled like that. Please only answer this question if you actually have knowledge on the subject. Thanks

OK so at my apartment complex their is one car alarm that goes off literally at least once a night, sometimes even more. Also there are a couple of people that live below me who have parties often, really it wouldn't be that bad but many nights (like tonight) when (I'm assuming this part) their friends leave or arrive they just sit in the parking lot and lay on the horn for like 15 minutes! It wouldn't be that bad during the day, but it is seriously screwing up my sleep. I don't know how much more I can take!

Anyway I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestion on things to do to help? Either ideas on how to keep sounds from coming in my apartment so much or something like that? I think it'd help if my walls weren't so thin, but I can't just remodel the place lol. Also I was wondering if this is something I'd have the right to complain about, or if there's nothing the apartment people can do.

ps: there's the damn car alarm for the SECOND TIME TONIGHT!!! Grr.

Im installing hardwood floor for the first time. I stripped the carpet and cushion and im down to the base boards now. However theres a section towards the end thats raised. Whats the best way to smooth it out so that the hardwood will look even during the install? Will a regular floor sander do the trick?

I have some seeds I saved from my grapefuits, oranges, and lemons. My questions is, how long do they last before they can longer be planted?
Days? Months? Years? Decades?
And is this true for all seeds...strawberries, sunflowers, etc...

I have shifted into a small house recently. It was just built and every thing, from painting to decoration, is left for me. It has a sitting room, a bedroom, a kitchen, a bothroom and a small lobby of 8'x8'. I want to know if someone could help me how should I arrange my house's interior. Is there any booklet, or website which would help me?

I just rented a large one-room apartment. The room is a large rectangle. There is a full kitchen along one of the short walls.

There is a separate bathroom of course.

What can be used to divide up the room into a bedroom and living room?

It's not something that must be done. It just would be nice to separate it a little. All I can think of are a couple of those folding Japanese tri-folds.

Anything else that might work?

Thanks.

The refrigerator and microwave will not turn on now. No other appliances or outlets in my house are affected. The GFI outlet near the refrigerator does not respond. Resetting the kitchen circuit breakers has no impact. What is the problem and what do you recommend I do about it? I would try to fix it myself if possible. Thanks!
