Dismantle them and lubricate the bearings.

More than likely the bearings that are located on both ends of the shaft have become dry. The problem is that in most fans these bearings are sealed and permanently lubricated at the factory. More that likely the cost of having someone replace them if they will is going to close to the price of a new fan. If you do it yourself you may still be behind the 8 ball unless you know what you are doing. You will still have to find the parts if they are available and then do all the work correctly. I f you happen to be lucky and have a bearing that can be lubricated then a drop or two of oil in the hole provided should do the trick. Since you are asking this question, it may just be easier for you to purchase a new fan.

REPLACE!!! they don't cost that much.the time spent "dismantling and oiling" ain't worth the B.S! most fans have sealed bearings anyway. go with hunter brand,5blade,52inch, i've always had good luck with hunter.
