I actually start at the bottom, and just kind of zig-zag the lights in and out of the branches, spiraling up as I go. I usually use 4 or 5 strands of mini lights on my 7 ' tree. I plug in the first one before I start, so I can see where the lights are, and plug the second one into it as I go, etc. No more than 3 strands together!Any more and you will need a second extension cord. When I get to the top, I just wind the last few lights around the top branch so the last female end is hidden under the tree topper.

I have decorated over 10 trees this Christmas season, I always start at the bottom, I start by running one extension cord up the trunk of the tree to around the middle and one near the bottom branchs. I then wrap each branch with lights, I find it is also very important to put light way in the middle of the tree, it looks amazing, Ive recived so many compliment on my trees, and the lights really make the tree...hope that helped!

I go top to bottom. We have a very narrow tree this year, and I tried something new: I wound the lights just around the trunk. I like it, but probably not enough to make the effort again.
Merry Christmas!

I start at the very top then work my way down, so if you have more lights than you need to can just keep wrapping them round the bottom as is bigger at the bottom. Dont stand on a chair though-thats where people fall onto the tee like on youve been framed! haha x

I like Isadora start at the bottom and work up and I zig zag in and out of the branches for a more 3 dimensional look.
I also do not wrap all around the tree I double back and it's much easier to remove the lights that way.
Of course now I don't do anything at all my 11 year old granddaughter that lives with me does it all. God Bless her!

Start at the top with the female side of your strand. That way, when you get to the bottom, you can plug it straight into the wall

bottom to top that way, you don't have a long rope in the back of your tree, and it's perfectly spiraled!

obviously, top to bottom because it is much more faster to set up than bottom to top. you'll have less trouble with it.
