There are very few roses that even come close to being purple.......and they aren't very close. The reason is there is no blue pigment in roses..not in their DNA. Sterling Silver is one type and maybe would be strong in San Diego but I've had trouble with it for years. Too weak.

Looking and Jackson and Perkins web catalog may give you an idea what's available.......there is a little floribunda that might work for you. Once you have a name then you can start calling around.....or ordering directly from J&P.

Jackson Perkins makes the best rose bushes. The purple roses are called "Sterling Silver" and they are very fragrant.
I'd call garden centers and ask them if they sell this brand.
