Energy Star recommends 68 degrees when occupied; many set theirs back 5-10 degrees when unoccupied; some set theirs back 5-10 degrees overnight also. They say that you save 1% for each 2 degrees set back. [If you heat with a heat pump, you must get a special (expensive) setback thermostat that bumps the temp up one degree at a time. If you use a "regular" one, and the temp setup is more than one degree the electric backup comes on and you lose what was just saved.] Hope this wasn't too much.

needless to say you could % to set it as low as you like, although there's a factor at which you at the instant are no further including performance. If the home is authorized to get too chilly, the equipment will ought to run very long to reheat the area. if your convenience point is sixty seven, then i could propose which you do not bypass plenty under 60. i does not hassle relating to the pets too plenty as fantastically much each domesticated animal substitute into initially designed for exterior climatic circumstances so any indoor temp. could be in basic terms fantastic for them.

I set mine this way

8am-12noon 64
12noon-5pm 66
5pm-10pm 68
10pm-8am 62

this setting has saved me 5-10% on energy usage

we turned off our program and just let it control at a constant 68 deg F. I live in ohio so, to me it feels cheaper to keep the house at one temp rather than letting it cool off when we aren't home or sleeping and heating up before we get up/home.
