Sorry about the limited details. We have the slab down and we have the frame and windows and a "friend" was suppose to be coming and erecting the frame and of course has not turned up. so I thought I would try and do it myself. we will be having a doorway from the new room to the existing house. We have a bricklayer lined up but just wanted to start on the frame.

I just hate it when factory workers with 2 ounces of common sense get laid off and think they are construction workers. Good luck and I'm not talking about the finish of the addition but the health of the home.

With all due respect, it might have helped us if you'd added a bit more detail. In any case I'll perhaps make an A** out of myself by assuming.

To consider "A Frame" as an addition to an existing structure, you should probably begin with the foundation/slab/crawl space that might equate to the rest of the structure, in your addition design.

IF you intend to OPEN up a wall area of the existing structure certainly load bearing should also be considered.

Then perhaps a roof design; Hip/peak/single slope, etc.

Simple could be, install a double ledger to an exterior wall, appropriately, and work from there, actually working in two opposing directions,,,down/up.

Without knowing at all, your intent, the context of our answers could be vague, long winded, and not at all what you truly want to know?.

A few more details please. Are you knocking out a wall ? Are you enclosing a porch ? Is there an existing slab ? Just with these options there are 3 different ways to go about it. Sorry I couldn't be more help to you.
