The plant is one of those viney plants that dangle downwards, is this in any way harmful for the plant? because of the frequent cycles of light, i'm sure it is very confusing for the plant to differentiate between day and night because of this. should the plant be moved?

I had a storm window break and threw away the whole thing by mistake. Is there a place that can make one for me (the glass and the frame) it would need to be custom made since it has to slide into the existing track that is behind my window.
I know my other option is to have the entire storm window but don't want to do that if I don't have to. I already went in Home Depot and they said they don't make custom storm windows. Thanks.

I have an old (around 100 years old) wood floor in my bedroom, it was covered with carpet, after pulling up the carpet we found the floor beneath was damaged from nails and painted gray.

How can I refinish this floor? What will I need? and what would be you guess on how much it will cost?

The room is about 17 X 15, and has about 20 stairs.

I built an addition to my garage two years ago and I have some serious leaks now. The old roof was 6/12 pitch and it goes into a 2/12 pitch. I assume that is where the water gets in. Then it will run down a rafter a ways before dripping down.

I tried tarring the roof where the pitch change occurs, but the leaks came back. So now I need to do something more drastic. I have been thinking that I should get a roll of 24" flashing and run it down the valley. I could slide it under the shingles above the transition point and tar/nail it down below the inflection point.

Would this work? If not, what do you suggest I do?

I just replaced the fan limit switch on my gas furnace 3 weeks ago now the furnace is doing the same thing it was doing before. The burners come on but the fan won't cut on unless I manually turn it to the on position on the t-stat. (Putting in the new fan limit switch did fix my problem for 3 weeks) This is a brand new fan limit swithch why would it go bad?

I forgot which way the arrow on the filter was pointing. What's an easy way to determine which way the airflow is?

Hi,

I have a Dyson DC14 that I bought here in the States. I am considering taking to UK where it is 240V. Can I do that or do I need to buy a new one?

Thanks,

I have two heat pumps, one in the attic and one in the basement. Last night my power went out, when it came back on the one in the attic wouldn't come back on. It's cold here, and I need both in order to heat my house. I just bought it this year about 8 months ago. Will my homeowner's insurance cover the system going out?

I'm building a floating floor to help with soundproofing a practice room. Using 2x4's as joists, and bought 3/4" thick 4' x 8' T&G plywood for subfloor, then Mass Loaded Vinyl mat, then 3/4" thick 4' x 8' MDF. The space is a perfect 8' x 8', so I thought it would be an easy build, but the T&G plywood is actually 48" from the tip of the tounge, so actually 47 1/2" wide, and the MDF is 49" x 97", one inch wider each way.
Why are these dimensions different, (like the 2x4 actually being 1.5 x 3.5) and how are they used in construction? Am I going to have to shave off an inch along the enitre width and length of the MDF?

I left for work really early before the sun came up to go to work. It was snowing like crazy. My driveway was about 8 inches deep in snow with drifts starting to build up.
Finally around 10 PM at nite the wind broke and the snow stopped. When I got back home, I discovered my driveway was plowed. I think the city guy did it while I was gone. Should I ask and give him $10 bucks? Do you think he will do it again each time the snow blows if I pay him? I am not able to scoop out my drive and have no one else to do it.

I just picked up a really nice book of seashells, at a yard sale, in mint condition, but it must have come from a home that had heavy smokers. I took a chance on it, thinking the answers group is very resoursefull. Any one have any suggestions?

How do you get candle wax out of a velvet dress? My friend's daughter was in a Christmas program and she had to carry a candle across the church (she's only 4) and she got wax all over her dress. If anyone knows how to get it out would you please let me know?

Why are British Gas quoting me nearly £4000 (inc vat)to replace my combi boiler in a like for like situation?
No additional pipe work or extra bits are needed.
The core charge for the boiler itself is £650 (ex vat) more expensive than the average internet price and comes to about £1350 from British Gas(ex vat).
With the timer / stat and flue the 'internet' total (inc vat and delivery) is £1030 as opposed to British Gas price of £1850!
Any help as where to go from here?
Thanks
