I do the same. There are lots of small things you can do-- doesn't have to be anything drastic. I use tea infusers and loose tea instead of tea bags. I use a lunch tote instead of paper lunch bags and I give my kid a reusable lunch tote too. And this holiday season, I forewent wrapping paper and wrapped my gifts in NYC Subway maps and old road maps. They look great.

Reuse, repurpose and recycle.

I try to look at each thing that would go into the trash differently and ask myself if there is something else I can use it for or change it up for another purpose. Like I burn a lot of candles instead of turning on lights and reuse the cleaned out jars to store pasta and beans or embellish them to use for homebaked goodies as gifts.

I reuse newspapers for packing gifts I have to ship or in the garden to block weeds in my flower beds. For Christmas, I covered over the store logos on the handled bags I got from department stores with old fronts of Christmas cards to use as gift bags. I also wrap each part of a gift box separtately and use a card front on gifts so the recipient can use the box again to give someone else a gift.

I don't buy products that are over packaged or too big for the products contained therein.

I use solar lights in my yard so I can see at night and have a measure of protection. I don't drive unless I have multiple things to do on the same trip. I turn off my appliances by a strip so that they don't consume energy while on the resting mode. I only launder in cold water and only when I have full loads and hang dry permanent press.

I morph meals so that when I make something one day, I can turn it into a different meal without using too much energy to remake it.

I use things I already own as storage, like teapots for bath salts and the accompanying creamer for cotton and sugar bowl for q-tips. Old liquor bottles with the addition of pourer spouts house vinegar, oil and dishsoap by the sink.

I use all of the free totes and sacks you get with purchases and credit card offers to bag my groceries and keep wine boxes in my car to bring home bottled and jarred goods.

I tinted my windows and installed ceiling fans so that I haven't had to use my AC in about 5 years (I live in a climate that is hot most of the time.)

When I really want to go green, I eat some of the green fuzzy stuff out of the bottom shelf of the fridge.

Works every time.
