My heat pump will not come on, compressor or the fan. I do not have 24 volts on contactor but there is 24v on red wire on control board. i can manually push the contactor in and it will run. I replaced the board about 2 weeks ago because the fan was running in defrost mode, after that it ran fine until 2 nights ago. I have a nordyne unit. could it be another bad board?

I was sitting here at home just now and all of a sudden half the lights in the house went off. I thought maybe it was because I was running the space heater at the time, and maybe a circuit got overloaded.

So I went to the switchboard panel, and none of the switches were tripped. Everything is still turned on.

So why did half the lights in the house go off, just like that?

Rigth now it's almost 8 p.m. Eastern time so obviously I can't call an electrician. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Last thursday my girlfriend went to the rental office to file a complaint about our garbage disposal not working. And by not working I mean nothing at all is right under my sink. The overflow line from the garbage disposal to the sink has completely fallen off. And I'm getting no power at all to the disposal. It made that powering down noise it makes when it is jammed but I took it apart and there is nothing inside. I can not wash my dishes in the sink or use my disposal at all. I know how to fix the connection but I am absolutely sure the garbage disposal needs replaced. But seeing that I am paying my apartment to fix these problems with part of the money i give them for rent I don't want to buy a new disposal or fix anything. Unless I get compensated for my time and money. what are my options here?

We have an older Essex SX211 thermocouple and noticed the pilot light was out. I went to relight it and ran the heater, then came back to find it was out again. Re lit it and it goes out when I tap the thermocouple. Could it just be dusty inside or do you think I need a new thermocouple?

I looked online for this part number and the price for a replacement is $168 but the article I read online said it's a "cheap replacement" and ought to cost "$10" for a new one. I did see some Essex ones on eBay for $18. Where do I get the basic replacement?

I'm also confused as whether the thermocouple is this: http://z.about.com/d/homerepair/1/0/u/4/-/-/thermocouple.jpg
Or this: http://z.about.com/d/homerepair/1/0/v/4/-/-/honeywell_standing_pilot.jpg

My husband fried up a couple of eggs and then forgot to turn off the burner and left the fry pan on there for about 15 min and now there's dark material stuck to the pan, and i've been scrubbing but I can't seem to get rid of it. Is there a way to get rid of it? I don't want to have to pitch the pan! Thanks!
