I am not talking about the main in line valve on the one pipe steam boiler heating system but the small air release valve on the side of the radiator. Thanks Bob

the old addage lefty loosie righty tighty in plain english left to loosen release steam right tighten less or no steam

using a key for the valve available at most hardware stores, turn the screw in the vale to the left to release any built up steam. tighten to the right

normally clockwise to close counter clockwise to open.
try adjusting a little both ways and see which one works
