My heat pump will not come on, compressor or the fan. I do not have 24 volts on contactor but there is 24v on red wire on control board. i can manually push the contactor in and it will run. I replaced the board about 2 weeks ago because the fan was running in defrost mode, after that it ran fine until 2 nights ago. I have a nordyne unit. could it be another bad board?

Sounds like a pressure switch keeping the unit off, more thank likely tripped out on high head pressure. Look for a reset button around the copper lines on the outside of the unit. I am not familiar with this brand but they are all pretty much the same. High head pressure means; dirty air filter, high outdoor temperature, bad fan motor, too much freon, reversing valve hung or outdoor expansion valve bad. Also you can look on the defrost board for two pins that say test on them, short between those two, if you short between them with the unit calling for heat it will turn on in defrost, stay there till the bulb is satisfied the run normally, at least all the units I install are like that. Air conditioning is not that hard as long as you know the basics and it sounds like you do. Good luck.

more than likely it is the contactor gone bad and for these units cost probably around 50 bucks minus the labor
