so we have an australian shepherd. she just turned 1. she had this horrible habit of peeing in the hallway, and its beyond ruinned. she's better now still a few "accidents" when she's mad at us or my fiance doesnt wake up until 1pm and she just cant hold it (she lives with him), but we have to get rid of the carpet. right now its just shag carpet over cement, no padding or anything.
i havent pulled up the carpet yet, but i'm sure it has to have gotten into the cement. whats the best way to get it out of the cement? and would it be better to put down vinyl tile there instead or the laminate wood panels that lock together? there's no saving the carpet, thats for sure.

I always place cups, bowls, and the like with the rim facing down so all the water can drain away.
The other half however always places them with the rim facing up as he says it is more hygenic.

Which do you think is correct?

I have dogs, we live on a moderately busy street and we smoke (we're trying to quit).

What type of filter should I get for the heat/ac system? I've been buying the 3 for $3 deal at walmart.

What else can I do?

Back when I had to live on $300 a month from welfare, I could not afford to dry my clothes at the laundry mat because it cost $1.50 to wash and $1.25 to dry a load and my son was a bed wetter, so I hung everything out on the clothesline.
I have forgotten how I managed to dry our sheets and clothes in cold weather.
Today, I hung my clothes out in the cold. Will they dry if its not freezing?

I have a very strong sewer smell in my basement and house. We just moved into a house built in 1875. The drains in the basement lead to a septic tank. When we first moved in, the drains continually backed up. Last week, we had a plumber dig up a line and replace a bad stretch of PVC. He also added a trap (it didn't have one before). So we still have one drain without a trap. Since the plumber fixed the line, we haven't had any more backups, but the smell is absolutely horrible! Before the 'fix', we never noticed any smell except for when it backed up. Now, it's a constant strong odor. Any ideas? Sugguestions?
Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to mow my back yard which is pretty high grass. The mower worked for maybe 15 min. Then I had to prime it to get it to start again, it worked for 2 min then cut off again. Then when I finally got it to start again as soon as I pushed it the mower cut off again. Any ideas why?

It's not my house so I'm limited on what I can do. We live in a 150 year old house, natural gas heat & water heater. Here's what I've done so far, I blocked off all heat to the upstairs (not used), I've blocked off heat to 1/3 of the downstairs (not needed(entry room and living room)), I've turned the temp down to 65°F (good for Central Michigan), I'm going to plastic wrapped any and all windows and weather strip all my doors. I'm going to recauck all the windows, what else can I do to keep the winter costs down? Being that is isn't my house, blowing insulation in I don't think is an option. & being that this isn't my house, I don't think I can apply for financial assistance nor do I believe in credit of any kind. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are teeny tiny and not really bothering me but it's weird to see little black ants all over the kitchen counter. I just moved in to this apartment and would like to know if this is common, what caused them to show up and how easy it is to get rid of them. I live in NC and am currently pregnant and have a 3 year old son, if that helps influence anyone's answer.
