A five foot bed (5/0 in mattress terminology) is a queen-sized bed. So technically you need a queen size duvet. However, a lot of mattresses these days are really tall, so check your drop (the amount of fabric you want to hang on the side). You mulitply the drop times 2 (for each side) and add 60". That gives you your total size needed. Most manufacturers will print the finished size of the duvet on the packaging, so just check to see if a queen will work. If it is too small go up to the king, not the super king.

I have a 5ft bed and a king size duvet, my daughter has a 4ft6" bed and also has a king size duvet, but her bed is taller than mine, so it doesn't touch the floor.

I'd go with the super king size, as long as you measure the width on your bed to make sure it won't touch the floor on the sides. Having said that, you'll get less choice of duvet sets cause super king size is not yet as "usual" size as single, double or kingsize.

King size. I've got a super king bed and am using a king size duvet at the moment. It's big enough but with no overhang.

A five foot wide bed is a queen size. A king size is 78 inches wide (two single beds of 39") and 80" long as is a queen. I have always assumed a super king is longer (84?) but not wider. However, I find that Wikipedia says "The U.S. Queen corresponds to UK King and King to Super King. ... Note that portable cots are generally the size of original single beds ..." so it might have been nice to specify a country.

5' = 60" = queen size bed in our part of the world. because we have a large family and lots of company we have four bedrooms in our home with q.s. beds in each. while most people would buy a queen size duvet for their queen-size bed we prefer to have larger covers on our bed so we buy king-size blankets, duvets, top sheets. obviously the fitted sheets would be queen size!
cheers!

In the UK, 5 foot is kingsize, and that is the correct duvet to use with it.

I share with a duvet-hogger, but still find that there is plenty to go around.
