dont put it on the property line put it on your property and you will never have a problem if the state of TEXAS and oklahoma cant agree on where the line is why do you think you,your nieghbor or the three assayers you hire will agree where the line is...... be smart!!!

Check with your local Building Code office. Some areas allow a fence on the line, while others require a set-back.

if you are in the city limits, call the Code Enforcement department....... just call City Hall and ask for Code Enforcement..... if it's called something else, the receptionist / phone operator will know who you need to talk to......
they are the people that have to go settle disputes over all kinds of things and they will give you the straight-up info for your particular city........
if you aren't in the city limits, call Code Enforcement for the nearest city, tell them you are considering moving into their fair city but want to put a fence on a property line..... that way you will get a feel for what the area "local rules" might be, even if not in a city......

Most cities consider it joint property and cost should be shared by neighbor(s). If neighbor doesn't want to pay I would move in 6" on your property and DIY. They shouldn't tie in to your fence on their side unless they share costs, but it is up to you to get this point across before paying for all.
