Back when I had to live on $300 a month from welfare, I could not afford to dry my clothes at the laundry mat because it cost $1.50 to wash and $1.25 to dry a load and my son was a bed wetter, so I hung everything out on the clothesline.
I have forgotten how I managed to dry our sheets and clothes in cold weather.
Today, I hung my clothes out in the cold. Will they dry if its not freezing?

My mom hung clothes out to dry year round. Even at below -20 degrees F. They will dry even if it IS freezing. In fact it seemed to dry them faster, probably because freezing air is VERY dry.

Warmth doesn't have anything to do with it....it's the level of humidity. The damper the air is, the longer it will take to dry.

If it is below freezing out, however, I'd recommend getting a drying rack for your house and putting the clothes inside; if it's not THAT cold, and the air's dry, it won't take any longer to dry than on a spring or autumn day.

Brutally Honest is right; the drying time depends on humidity. Clothes can and will dry if it is below freezing. The biggest problem then is cold hands while you are working outside. The clothes will freeze and might take a short time to get COMPLETELY dry when you bring them in. You can also get drying racks (we call them clothes bars) for inside your house. They are a plus in the winter because the added humidity in the house is usually a welcome thing.

Yes, they will dry as long as it is not freezing out....it just takes a little longer. ALso helps if there is a slight breeze.
