We have a smoke alarm in the hallway. It has never been this sensitive before. Every time we cook, the steam sets it off, and we have to waft it to get it to stop. Tonight it just kept going and going, taking longer and longer to stop, and then starting up again. It's not humid (we're in the UK, where it's pretty cool right now). Tonight I had to take out the batteries altogether, cause even with windows open and the extractor fan going in the kitchen, it still picks up on the slightest bit of steam.

Any ideas?

are they the best way to get instant heat? Anyone ever compared energy cost to heat produced. I know little about this subject but want an efficient low cost heat source for short periods.

How effective is caulking your windows shut for the winter compared plastic-ing the windows?

Putting the plastic up is a pain in my azz so I am trying to find alternatives, I am curious of caulking the opeinings and seams and cracks unitl i need to open them in the spring. Is there that much heat loss through the window pane itself? I assume the cold forces its way into the house via small openings in the entire casement. What do you think?

I'm cleaning out my frige and I need some tips on what to use to clean the inside of it. I already got all the old food out, but I want to clean like the shelves and stuff. I heard than you aren't suppose to use bleach or ammonia type cleaners, so what can I use? Also how can I keep from making a huge mess? Any tips or advice would be greatly appriciated!! Someone *accidentally* seeded the grass with the wrong seed...now it is St. Augustine & Bermuda grass growing together. Can I overseed with one grass, or do I have to re-sod the entire lawn. It is a huge lawn and looks terribly unsightly up-close.

I am an advanced beginner. I have used sergers before and have no problem threading, so I don't care if it has easy threading. I would prefer one that uses sewing machine needles. I want to stay under $250 if possible. It needs to be a 3/4 serger, be able to switch to a rolled hem without chaning anything, have differntial feed and moveable knife. I do want it to have color coded threading.

I recently purchased a treadmill, which came in a 250 lb box which is very large.

Unfortunately, because of a variety of vacations on other issues, none of my friends will be able to come out to where we live to help out for a few weeks.

My question is there any easy way for my wife and myself to move such a large box upstairs without killing ourselves? The box dimension are 7 ft by 3 ft by 1 ft, and it weights 250 lbs.

We've tried plain old lifting, but it's too heavy for the two of us... so is there any tools that we can use or are easy to get which would help us?

Thanks!

I used it about 6 weeks ago, and it ran like a champ. I always drain out any leftover gas, and run the engine until all the gas is used up in the lines. I have tried new gas and oil, and even a new spark plug. It just doesn't seem to be firing at all. What could be causing this?

I have lost the manual.
I have something caught (like part of and old raggy towel) caught around the base of the center spinle thing. In my old washer I could just shimmy the center thing up and out but this one doesn't want to move.
Does anyone know how to get the center piece out? Does it screw out some how? Can i get the little cap off and unscrew it some how? Please help....my laundry is piling up out of control!I haven't been able to find the manual online at all.
It is a Kenmore laundry center Model number 417.99160110

My bathtube and toilet sits next together. Everytime the water in the bathtube stucks and drains down very slow, the water from the toilet comes out on the floor. About 10 minutes later, the water from bathtube drains down freely, and water from the toilet stop rising.
What should I do? Please give me advise to save money for fixing this problem. Thanks a lot

and grow some veg instead for a change (i just ended up letting the birds eat the fruit but dont worry - I will leave some for them).

When I finally get them dug out, how should I prepare the ground, what veg should I grow that will not be a failure to a very amateur and part-time gardener and what should I be doing now? Live in west of Ireland so need hardy type of veg and I refuse to use slug pellets so dont want anything too attractive to these pests.

Thanks
