I can't quite picture this setup, so I'll just answer the question: Sometimes the furniture does end up on one side if you need the opposite as a "hallway" or walking path. You can always put a bookcase or narrow table along that wall with a lap and diningroom like chairs that won't interfere with the path. The rest of the furniture is U shape along the other wall. Use an area rug to define the seating area. Hope this helps.

If you mean that you're trying to decorate a long and narrow room I would check out the page below. It offers you information on how to decorate a long narrow room.

It suggests dividing a long narrow room up into two individual sections and in one of the sections you can place a piece of furniture in the center of the room and in the other section you place most of it along the wall. It also links off to three sites that include floor plans that you can look at and use to understand how you can place the furniture in situations in which a room is long and narrow:

I hope that helped. Sorry if it didn't. I had trouble grasping what you meant entirely and just thought I'd take a shot at helping you in case it is what you meant.

Best of luck to you.

Well first draw a floor plan with everything spred out. Try it. If you like it keep it, if not try again.
