I am an advanced beginner. I have used sergers before and have no problem threading, so I don't care if it has easy threading. I would prefer one that uses sewing machine needles. I want to stay under $250 if possible. It needs to be a 3/4 serger, be able to switch to a rolled hem without chaning anything, have differntial feed and moveable knife. I do want it to have color coded threading.

If you can go to $300, you can get a refurb Juki 3/4 thread at Allbrands. Every Juki I've sewn on has been built more like a commercial machine than a home machine -- heavier duty than similar machines at those pricepoints. When my Pfaff died last spring, I replaced it with a Juki MO655, 5 thread and have been very pleased. I cannot answer the question about a rolled hem without changing anything, but it can be done on the 655, so assume it's possible on the 3/4.

Other places to check might be the sewing machine reviews section at patternreview.com

That detailed a model try craigslist.
A standard sewing machine retails at $100-$600.
A Bostitch or some such thing would be nice.
Brother is another one.
Brothers are kinda cheap, $195 or so for a 4 bobbin surger.
