I installed a storm door and the sweep hits the concrete in front of the door. I raised the sweep but it still scraping the concrete.

Is there a DIY way to grind the concrete? I'm looking to remove less than a quarter inch. The only methods I have been able to find involve renting industrial equipment or paying a contractor. Isn't there some sort of 'sand paper' or 'sanding block' to do this?

I received this tree as a gift about seven years ago. It has gotten too big for the house. Is it okay to plant it? Should I do it now (early Oct. in NC) while the weather is mild? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

We live in a basement apartment with tile floors. We have several rugs, but no carpet! Suddenly my family is finding fleas on everyone, especially my 2 year old son who must be particularly delicious. Help! We don't have any pets, so we can only guess that they have begun to come inside to find water (and humans). I need to find a way to get rid of them that is not dangerous to my son. This began just yesterday, and now they are everywhere! I never saw a flea in this house before yesterday morning, but we have found a steady stream of them since then. They have got to go!

Hi!

We're looking to build a home, and one of the options is a propane gas fireplace for about four thousand dollars extra. I've chatted with the neighbors, and the cost of filling the propane tank every winter has gone up quite a bit in our area, so I'm trying to cut heating costs, as the heat pump is the only appliance in the house that uses gas. Do people typically save much money with a gas fireplace? Are they really all that economical?

For the record, energy savings are what I'm most interested in, not the aesthetics, so any answers related to the economical value would be most appreciated :)

I have had very good luck walking quietly about the lawn and waiting for them when to pop up and wacking them with a #3 wood. But my gardener suggested that I would get better speed with a #4 iron.

True, I might. But would that be sporting?

The past week, every time I turn my water on, the pipes all starting shaking and making loud noise. I have a well, pressure pump, whole-house filter, water softener and iron filter. I'm afraid the pipes will burst? Why is it doing that after living here 3 years? What do I do to fix it?

The mower has a new air filter, gas filter, and the cap air vent is fine. Dealer says it is the gas (Virginia) and to try some premium. I did and it runs fine. But all gas must be new or problem reappears (with week old gas). Does anyone have a solution for this?

My washing machine stops twice during the cycle. On each ocassion I have to turn it off, turn the dial full circle, and turn it on again- then it continues at the point where it left off. I've checked the drainage and this is not the problem. Is it time I bought a new machine or is the problem mendable?

Has any one tried gardening with the moons cycles. It is something I am very interested in as it seems to make sense.
I have sort of tried to follow the guidelines in my gardening.
It's hard to get any of my clients to cooperate though so i just really do what I can at home.
Do you have to stick to a rigid system or can it just be incorperated to 'normal' gardening?
Is it really as time consuming as I find it?

I hired a plumber refered to me by my gardener. I think it's his cousin. Anyway, Mario showed up right on time and inspected my plumbing problems and needs. As usuall, the problems were much greater that I had anticipated.

He told me that is was best if all the problems were taken care of at one time. So, trusting him I said ok.

I had no idea he would remove 7 toilets, both water heaters, the washer and dryer, and what looked like a half ton of copper pipe. He stated that it was better to take all of the above to the shop for inspection and repair.

That was a little over a week ago. I haven't seen him since.

Should I be worried?
