I really wouldn't advise it. Call up a friend to see if you can borrow their truck.:)

I just moved and thought mine would be fine too. But they weren't. I had mine in a huge moving truck. My washer was fine but my dryer didn't make it. I had a guy look at it and he said tilting it to get it on and off the truck made something go bad inside it. So the next time I used it, It burned my clothes. Now I have to get a new dryer. :(
Live and learn I guess.

I would recommend renting a bigger truck for this. The price of a rental truck is way cheaper than repairing or replacing the washer and dryer.

well first you get a truck or a trailer to put them on. then you would tie them down with a strap or a tie down. if you transport them on a truck try to put them behind the cab so you get less wind to it. if you put them on a trailer put them directly over the wheels so they pull easyer. if you have to use the suv it shouldnt hurt the washer or dryer.

Just hire a competent mover to do the job or rent a U-haul truck or trailer and do it right.

No, they should be ok. They aren't like a refrigerator they don't have anything in them that need to be upright.
