I am helping to organise a 40th birthday party and cannot decide how to decorate the venue. What would be the best way to decorate the tables. Also how to use the balloons, thinking of having latex ones filled with helium would it be best to put them on backs of chairs, centrepieces etc? any ideas?

and also what do you think colour wise and also what to put on the walls?

thanks any ideas are better than none but please only sensible ones!

Ive got a nice rose bush in my garden with a trellis (sorry about the spelling) on the wall. The bush just seems to be growing out instead of up, Ive tided some parts of the bush to the wall but nothing is happening! How do I tame it and make it grow upwards?!

I have bay windows which only allow a 1 3/4" clearance to the soffit above (this lies at the lowest part of a vaulted ceiling). I want to install window trim around them but think narrow trim looks wimpy. Can I install nice architectural trim through the rest of the home and skip the bay windows...perhaps detracting from no trim through the use of nice window treatments, i.e. roman shades? Or would this look awkward? Thanks!

How much will I save on my gas bill?

I am getting a new Carrier furnace at 96.6% efficient. (2 stage) It is replacing a furnace that is 33 to 40 years old and was at the most 60% efficient.

The highest gas bill the last people who lived in the house got was $428.00.

The last people kept their heater on 75 to 80 degrees during the winter. (I will be keeping it right at about 66 to 68)

Winters are VERY cold here. (NE Ohio) and we are going to be weather proofing some more. (Insulation, cracks around windows etc.)

If that would have been my bill what would the bill be now?

my mom is looking to pull up carpet in a 400sq ft living room and replace it with pretty much anything...what are some durable, kid friendly, affordable options? Right now it looks like the cheapest may be tile vinyl...is this correct?
Thanks in advance!

I've seen hummingbirds in my yard twice just recently. I know I can look up on the net what plants they like, but I would like some info from y'all. Namely what plants do they seem to prefer, despite what the published info states. This is only the fourth time in my life that I've seen one, and I want to invite them into my yard.

i watched this show secret spaces on HGTV and it just gave me a ton of ideas for how i would make my house with hidden rooms, passageways etc. One idea i think would be pretty cool is to make a tunnel that runs from the bottom of a outside pool to a hidden room inside your house that would be unacessible to anyone unless you swimmed there. Did anyone see the show or have a house with secret spaces?

I am looking to paint some broad "striping" on an interior wall of a retail showroom. I know the basics (masking, etc.) but I would like to know if there is a more efficiant way to accomplish this task... Or maybe you D.I.Y. painters out there have some industry secrets you can let me in on.

I look forward to your responses!

We were not aware that we had a (massive) leak until the water company shut our water off. After some investigating, we had a busted water main (about 3 ft in the ground, underneath the sidewalk) and paid $650 to have it fixed. Today, we received a water bill for $1,109. With a copy of the receipt from the plumber, will this be waived? Our normal monthly water bill is $30.

My roof is leaking and I know it takes thousands of dollars to get a new roof (the whole roof needs replaced). Do you know if roofers let you make payments or do you have to pay for it all up front? (I live in Kokomo, IN if you can recommend anyone!)
