My roof tiles are concrete and fifty years old.
Many are cracking and when I`m in my loft I can see daylight in gaps around the chimney and elsewhere.
The felt is also in poor condition with tears in several places.

Hello

I have an old wooden staircase that I am painting white. If I leave the paint as it is, it will get damaged when people walk on it. I want to put another layer of varnish on top of the paint, to act like a protective layer (and also make it glossy).

If possible, I would really like to use a 100% natural product (no synthetics) with no VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Does Tung Oil fit the bill? Can I place a natural oil over a painted surface?

Also, does it make a difference if I use water-based (emulsion) or oil-based (gloss/satin) paint for the white?

Thanks.

i was looking to buy a 1600 square foot house, my first home, but was baffled at what they cost in my area already built (145k) so i was thinking about contracting one out myself, my question is, a simple plan 1 story 1600 square foot house with an attached 2 car garage----something like this

http://details.coolhouseplans.com/details.html?pid=chp-18627&FoundID=22&sid=chp23

if i could come out a whole lot better just contracting it out and getting it into the dry and doing the majority of the inside work myself, plumbing, wiring, insulating, flooring etc etc, ive got some experience with the majority of these due to working with my dad a lot, and if i ran into anything i wasnt sure would pass inspection i could just get him to come out and help me with it

....sorry to ramble, but any how, i was thinking that house on a crawlspace...i could probably save a ton compared to what that house would sell for (approx 145k) already constructed in my area, is this a good prediction?

No matter what, next door he either over waters, has his sump pump and pool backwash drain in my yard. The water pools in one area of it which is the corner. I have tried unsuccessfully for years to get him to stop it and nothing works.
I have a drainage system installed in the yard, and had a drain placed in this corner. However, the installer did a poor job and the drain isn't deep enough for the water to reach the drain.
I thought of trying to continue the slope from the house next door but it comes down sharply at the fence, then it dips slightly in my yard and the drain is about 8 feet away. So all this water collects there in this heavy clay soil, and doesn't get to the drain.
It was suggested to me by a garden center to install stones and rocks to try to raise the level so the water goes into the drain.
Also, the garden center said that with putting down rocks and stones enough of them will also make it so the water stays underneath the stones. Anyone have experience with this?

I've been to Building Inspection which is a Division of the
Development Services Department, with main offices at 320 E. Jefferson Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75203, telephone 214-948-
4480. COMPLETE JOKE. They can't advise you on where you need to go or any detailed information that you may need to obtain. So that a person can proceed. I have the site map of my property. The Company literature that states the specs of the carport. Carport will be detached. Walls are 7 ft east and west. North and South walls are open. Pitch of the roof is 10 ft. I have the building draw to scale dimensions. ( I may be saying that incorrectly ) Has anyone in Dallas been approved for a permit and if so, what advice can you provide? Thanks in advance. SB.

I have a cottage (or pyramid) roof. I don't know what the rise or height is (and it's a two storey house). I only know the outside dimension (all sides are 20' ...800 sq ft house). I want to estimate the cost of the steel/aluminum sheets so I have enough money saved.

We are redecorating our family room. I was wondering if a brown leather couch and recliner would go with a black entertainment center and a green rug. If not, what should we change. If so, what type of window treatments should I get?
