I recently moved into a house and the previous owner left some nice curtains in all the rooms. I like them but they are sheer and lets in a lot of sunlight during the day. Anybody know any solutions how I can make these opaque without spolining their appearence. Are there any curtian liners for curtians in living rooms/bedrooms?

I have found several black widow spiders in my yard. I have two young children. How can I get rid of the spiders without using any pesticides that may harm my kids? I can keep sweeping away the webs and crushing the spiders, but what if I miss one! Help.

I replaced a damaged wire to the light switch. No problem there. The switch has a black wire on the bottom screw, white wire on the top screw and the switch is grounded to the metal box. I hooked everything back together like it was previously. I dont like at all how it was previously done thats why I am asking.
First of all they had the black wire coming from the switch conncected to the one side screw on the light socket-- No problem there.
Second they had the white wire coming from the switch connected by a wire nut to the black wires in the junction box.
I did not like the looks of this. The other side screw of the light socket has a white jumper wire coming off the white wires pigtailed together. The switch works fine, it never caused a dead short it just looks like they did it backwards. Other: concern is that it is old wiring and they did not use wire nuts they just twisted the wires together and soldered some and taped over. I hate the 3 in. bare wire just solder/tape over

I have the following setup:
I have two separate pieces of flex conduit; one goes to breaker box, the other goes to the switch that controls the light.
Flex conduit coming from breaker box has two wires, black and white.
Flex conduit from switch has three wires, black, black, and white.
Fixture has three wires, black, black w/ ridges, bare.

How can I tell which of the two black wires on switch side are which and once I do, what goes where?

My bathroom sink started to drain very slowly so I used Drano and that made things worse. Now my sink takes at least 3 hours to drain. I cleaned out the U shaped pipe and it still takes forever to drain. I was wondering if anyone has had any success using Rid-Ex in a bathroom sink. I really cant afford to hire a plumber either. Thanks for the feedback!

I want to stick with a Chinese art, culture, style, and color. Currently I have a black leather couch, and chair (Ikea) and coffee table and end tables.

Just need to know where i can get inspiration for color schemes and design layouts. I need to know what colors would look best and how to coodinate them in traditional chinese style.

All i know so far is reds, but my apartment complex might not allow it since it's soo bright, but i'm going to do it anyway.

all suggestions from chinese heritage and culture appreciated, reason being my chinese better half needs a surprise!

I have purchased recessed lighting for a remodel. I would like to install the lighting myself and use the wiring from the old light fixture. Can I do this as a home owner, or do I need to hire a licensed electrician? Can a home appraiser demand a letter from a licensed electrician before he completes his appraisal? This is only a modification to the existing lighting.
