I recently moved into a house and the previous owner left some nice curtains in all the rooms. I like them but they are sheer and lets in a lot of sunlight during the day. Anybody know any solutions how I can make these opaque without spolining their appearence. Are there any curtian liners for curtians in living rooms/bedrooms?

A really good idea is to line them with fabric called Temptrol. This will block out light and heat. You'd be suprised how much heat is gained and lost through the windows. Sew it with the white side facing the curtains you already have, and the foil side facing out. This material runs less than $4.50 a yard. I'll include links to a couple sites that sell it.

You could install mini blinds behind the sheer curtains. These are great for blocking the sun out when you need to. They can be left down and in the open position to let the light in or raised completely to be virtually invisible (depending on what's happening at the top of your windows - if you have a valance, it could hide the blind completely when raised). Blinds come in many colours, so you can match the colour to the sheers, or to the wall colour, or stick with a neutral tone (either white, beige or pale grey, depending on your colour scheme.

maybe line them in the back with another type of semi sheer fabric so the effect doesnt get lost completely. lining with a solid fabric might lose the effect completely. best wishes
