I mean in your house. I know it goes to the sewer, but what other process does the water you flush and drain go?

after the commode is flushed the contents travel thru you sewer

now if you are on a septic line it goes to the main pit where it breaks down and over time is disolved into 'fertilizer' and flows thru the laterals (lines that run under your yard) and becomes part of your yard

on the other hand if it is a sewer system your home is connected to the contents travel thru the lines from your house to the main line under the street most likely

from there it runs a course down hill till it reaches a local pumping station that brings it back up to ground level adds a bit of water and lets it flow even more on a down hill slope to the next station ...

after a few ups and downs it finally reaches the treatment plant

where it is combined with a multitude of chemicals and vast amounts of water

when its 'ph' level reaches a certain point it is released back into the river to travel on down stream as fish food

There is no wastewater treatment in your house, if that's what you are asking.

All the drains are connected together to a main drain that runs out to the street to the sewer line. If you were flushed down the drain, the only thing you would see is a non-return valve on the main drain line to prevent sewers from backing up into your house. It would be a very short trip.

Most items that go down the drain end up in a pond, bay, or river nearby. The outside sewer system carries rainwater and other debris out to a watershed where its released back into the environment, somewhere. For example, water and drainage from the sewer system in santa monica make their way out at the Santa Monica bay near the pier. The drains from INSIDE the house all go to the same place, waste sewage system. This water and waste is then sent to a water treatment plant and then sent back out to the watershed, so in a sense it is mostly all reused. That is why you will find alot of water treatment facilities near ponds, rivers, etc.

if you live in a city it goes into the sanitary sewer system. That goes to the sewer treatment plant where its biologically broken down from solid waste to liquid, then chemically treated to be re released into the environment. If your in the country it goes into a septic tank where bacteria breaks down the solid waste and its mixed with waste water and then drained into the evaporation or leech lines to be absorbed into the ground or evaporated in the air.....George

the sewer runs to a central collection,
where they treat it, and remove the solids
and release the treated water back in to a river or stream,

It goes to a water waste treatment plant and either gets dumped into a river or lake, or it gets fully treated and comes back through your faucet.

some places it goes to a septic tank then leaches out into the drain field from there.
