I always here fescue and kentucky bluegrass.

I'm in ID and summers are HOT and DRY much like No. CA. Our lawn gets a lot of sun exposure (which is what I think you should be aware of in your yard) and I chose the "sunny" bag of seed to overseed my yard and the majority of it was fescue. I think this is more heat and drought tolerant. There was also a little kentucky bluegrass in it and the gal at the local store here said that's what gives it that DARK green textural look. But, anyway, I think you are good to go if you have a lot of sun exposure on your lawn with that mix of fescue.
