I recently moved to an apartment temporary. It's not bad for the time being, but the bathroom sink is awful. Oh, I've cleaned it thoroughly, but the problem is that it looks as if a smoker used it for an ashtray. It looks like cigarette burns around it.I've tried numerous products but no luck.Does anyone know how I can rid of all these marks? Could it be covered up with paint or something? Please help if you have any ideas. Thanks

I'm adding an addition of significant size and waould like to go with a new brick style. I may do this if it would be possible to also remove and replace the old brick on the original structure without severe damage. Is this ever done and what are the TIPS ??

I'm adding on to my house and my new square footage will be ~3000-3200. 2000 of which is on the main floor and the remainder upsatirs. I've been told that a rule of thumb is the size of the unit is one ton per 500 sq ft. So I need a 6 ton unit?
Secondly, whats the breakdown for paying for added SEER rating and actual savings,,,, at what point does the SEER rating reach diminishing returns?

We had a power outage early evening and when everyone elses power went back on @ 10:00pm, ours didn't. After investigating we realized the main double 100 amp breaker was shot.
About how much would it cost to have a electrican come & switch out the breakers?
I live in California if that matters.
Thanks in advance.

I just moved house and want to start a compost, there is a big black plastic compost bin in the backyard so thought I'd use that, it has a plastic bottom I think too. Do I just chuck kitchen scraps in or do i need to add dirt/water/something else? How will I get it out when its full? Would I be better off just digging scraps into some bare soil? Any advice appreciated!

I have a pumpkin vine growing in my yard. We planted seeds two years ago and they are just now growing. The female flowers have little pumpkins, but they die with the flower. Is there a way to get them fertile, besides "helping" them have sex, in a sense? I read that you can do it by hand, get the pollen from the males and transfer it to the females. That just seems like a lot of work. Is there an easier way to get the pumpkins to mature?

My husband and I need a new weed eater / line timmer / weed-wacker.....it's called many things! You know what I mean though.
We've decided to go with a gas instead of electric. And we are prepared to pay between $150 and $250 because we want a nice one (echo or stihl).
But at the store we noticed that they have a new kind. It is where you can just re-load trimmer line 'sticks', instead of winding the ever-tangling spool.

My husband wants to go for the trimmer that just has replacement sticks, because he hates re-loading the spool.

I however like the fact that with the spool you can 'tap it' to extend more line. With the re-loadable sticks, wouldn't you have to stop every two-dozen feet, turn it upside down, put two more sticks in, over an over again? To me this seems tedious. Do the sticks last longer then the line on the spool does?

Are there any professionals out there who would reccomend one over the other? And for what reasons?

Thanks!

The roof needs replacing.
I’ve been told the gable vents (one at each end of the side walls) need to be blocked up. Is this correct?
There are ridge vents along the top, soffits under the bottom edge of the roof, and another vent (like a flattened mushroom) extending out of the roof.
Also, is there anything else I should watch out for or ask when I talk to the roofers?
As you can tell, I don’t know much about this and I don’t want to get scammed.

I have this pic on my 360 page of a brick house. I'm supposing that it could be identified as to it's country of origin by the distinct roofing style. Any one have any info?

I worked with a plumbing contractor to put a new steam boiler in my house. As I know, steam boilers need to be sized correctly I verbally verified the sizing with him. Unfortunately, on the install date I could not be home because I just started a new job. He installed a boiler far bigger than I discussed. As well, the boiler documentation states that the boiler will not be warrantied if mis-sized. However, the contract did not state the size. I have withheld payment but the contractor is threatening a lien. Am I screwed?
