I'm adding an addition of significant size and waould like to go with a new brick style. I may do this if it would be possible to also remove and replace the old brick on the original structure without severe damage. Is this ever done and what are the TIPS ??

It would be expensive. Consider a brick "facing" instead. It's a quarter to half the thickness of regular brick, lighter, and can be installed over your existing brick...

It should be brick veneer on your house. It is attached to your house by thin corrugated metal strips. It is attached to your house frame. It should not be any different than removing siding from your house. Go for it!! There should be a bout a 1" gap between the house and the brick. Remove the trim board at the top and you might be able to pull the bricks out by hand.

It can be done. I have never really heard of that before, but I can see your point. You would have to get a roto hammer and chisel through the mortar between the bricks. You may be able to sell the used brick to a brick salvage place.

good luck.
