Add mirrors, check out DIY, Lowes, Home depot, etc... websites for ideas, and make all the stuff you can.
Paint is cheap. Fabric you can buy at Walmart on the $1.00 rack.

If you love bright colors, check out Outrageous Green by Sherwin Williams:
http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp
Then you could do a cool stencil over top in orange, purple and white:

I agree with the person above who said that HGTV is a great resource for room photos. I also like Better Homes & Gardens:
http://www.bhg.com/bhg/decorating/
And the really cool thing about BH&G, they have all sorts of homemade craft ideas for decorating, so you don't have to spend a lot of $$.
*Love* this bedroom:

if your room is small and storage is a issue then raise your bed so you can store thing s underneath it
you can sew your own flat sheets, pillow cases, curtains, and possibly even your own duvet-cover with guess what, fabric from a fabric store. .... so go to a fabric store and browse because it's fun and at the very least you'll get inspired just from looking around ... but back on the subject of sewing your own stuff, in general you won't be able to sew your own fitted sheets or shams unless you've got lots of skills with a sewing machine. fitted sheets and shams can simply be purchased

First thing, if your room is small, place your furniture near the walls to create space between them... For example, keep your bet next to one wall, and your closet near the other, so that there will be space between them...
Second, use light colors in the walls, like white... if you think it´s going to be boring, paint one wall colored, like a light pink or a light green, and the other 3 walls you paint white. Another option is to paint the bottom half of the walls in a darker color, such as purple, and the top half in a lighter color, like lavender.
Another tip would be to get white furniture... they would make the room look "lighter". If you get dark furniture your room ill look heavy! take a look:

After getting white furniture and painting the walls, you should get bedding and curtains... you can get them colored if you furniture and walls are not very colored!

Get neutral furniture and wall colors, and when you get tired of your room, just change the accessories!
Hope you like it! Good luck!*)
