The main problem is that the glue can actually melt the carpet fibres. But if the carpet looks to be relatively okay, then I would rub the area with an ice cube (as previously mentioned) and then scrape or pick of the pieces of glue. Then use eucalyptus oil on a cloth to gently dab at the glue.

Go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get GOO REMOVER, or something named like that. In HOme Depot, it's usually right up at the check out register stands. It's a small brown bottle, only a few bucks. Its made to get rid of bubble gum in carpet, and dissolve the adhesives of some tapes like duct and maksing tapes. Good luck.

Glue - Sponge vinegar on spot saturating spot, let sit for 20 minutes. Scrape with dull knife. Sponge again, let sit then rinse with hot water
