As long as you get a good one there is no problems. Personally could not live without one. I own three of them one being cordless. Bosh makes very good hammer drills but they are on a heavier side. My favorite is my DeWALT. I have both corder and cordless. Cordless for small jobs and the corded for the tough concrete slabs etc. For small around the house needs from time to time even an inexpensive Ryobi will do the job.

Hammer drills do tend to be heavier than regular drills... their actual use though, is just as safe as any drill. (Many hammer drills will function as both)

You'll want safety glasses when using a hammer drill, and maybe some ear plugs, hehehe.

Good Luck

Safety is your main concern. Use safety glasses for sure. I suggest work gloves too. Learn the pressure needed to keep the bit cutting. If you are using a carbide tipped drill, be careful not to over heat. The tip brazing will melt and the tip will fall out. Just give it a rest (to cool) occasionally and you can use water to cool.

No big problems as long as you use them safely. Do not buy the $30 model at the discount store. They are not built heavy enough and the brushes will burn out quickly. This tool can be very useful and last a long time. Newer models have both hammer and non-hammer modes of operation.
