I am helping to organise a 40th birthday party and cannot decide how to decorate the venue. What would be the best way to decorate the tables. Also how to use the balloons, thinking of having latex ones filled with helium would it be best to put them on backs of chairs, centrepieces etc? any ideas?

and also what do you think colour wise and also what to put on the walls?

thanks any ideas are better than none but please only sensible ones!

Well I always want to be an interior design. Maybe I can help you....Whose bday? female or male?? It depends on how much your going to spend?? If its going to cheap, so I prefer you to just decorate with 40 balloons(pick out only 2different colors) so, it wouldn't look like a really cheap party. Put it at end of the leg of the table with strings.

If you haven't been to a large chain party store lately, do stop in. If you aren't planning the usual over the hill, there are so many other fun themes to choose from. Let the theme you choose decide your colors. There are also entire wall murals available to match the themes along with everything else imaginable. Your balloon arrangements need to be on the tables as centerpieces. Tell the party store how high you want the balloons to sit on the weight so you can see through to the other table guests. And you must have them filled with helium if you want them to last past a few hours. Once you decide on your theme, the party stores have no end of accessories for you to choose from to carry your theme. A good party store will walk you through what you need.

I would disagree with the bit about balloons on chairs - IMHO balloons on chairs look a bit messy... for a really impressive look you need to go for something quite stylish.

I would suggest you put three helium balloons on ribbons of different lengths in the centre of each table - these should be weighted as well- u can either buy weights quite cheaply with the balloons or make some with circles of material filled with rice to make little 'bags' tied up with ribbon.

Ikeas do clear glass tealight holders for about 30p each - get about 10 for each table and then scatter sparkles with "40" on over the tables...this looks beautiful...

For a nice personal touch get lots of photos of the birthday girl/boy and photocopy these quite small onto card & cut up to make name place cards...

If you can get access to an Over head projector & laptop you could get someone to scan the photos into their computer and make a slide show - this can be projected onto a wall which looks fab.

I always like silver and blue colourwise but pick two colours...

good luck!

Why not do something fun, like a Mexican Fiesta. Have a pinata, the limbo and margarita's. Chips and salsa as center pieces, and a taco bar for the main course. Even people in their 40's have a kid inside of them. We all like to have fun. This would give people the opportunity to something other than drink and stare at each other. Don't forget a huge sombrero for the birthday boy/girl. Enjoy!!!

Maybe you should try bright colors, to make the birthday person feel younger? Its not really an old age, but you know how is. Also, I think that balloons for the centerpiece is a good idea...
Hope this helped...

i would put balloons on the bank of the chair cos if you put it in the centre ppl wont be able to see eachother as easy and it gets in the way off food and drinks and stuff! i would go for a gold and purple theme and put some disposable camras int he centre of the table for ppl to catch happy moments with!
