I have queen sized bed and box spring set that sits on a metal frame. The frame was the cheapest one the mattress store sold, and the bed shakes from any movement. Does this bed need the frame? It's a large, heavy bed, and I don't want to ruin it.

Also, if you have any remedies for stopping the frame from shaking, that would be good as well. all of the screws are tightened as much as they can be.

I found where I think they are getting in and it is the same area an exterminator told me. I've gotten estimates w/ exterminators and contractors to do this work and it seems to be a lot of $$$ going towards labor, which I feel I can do. Besides cementing up my foundation, what are other things I can do to keep the little rodents out????

Can anyone tell me what I should expect to pay to have a tankless water heater installed?

I had a plumber out today and asked him and he gave me a verbal quote of $3000-$4000 which I thought was rediculusly high. I've estimated on my own the cost of the heater needed is pretty low, between $600 and $900 so based on the quote I was given they're talking 30-40 hours of labor to install?

Basically, all that needs to be done from what he said is a new larger gas line run to where the water heater is which would be about 10 feet and then new vent ducting to the roof which is about 30 feet. And if I go with the bosch 1600H there's no need for electricity since the water flow provides the power for the ignition.

Thanks.

I am installing a backsplash in the kitchen using 41/4" ceramic tile. The adhesive is double duty ceramic in a can. The container says to use one notched trowel but the people in the tile store say to use a different size. What is the proper trowel to use? Thank you.

the hot water works just fine but it seems that the cold water never really gets cold. I let the water run every morning and at best it gets slightly better that room temp. The issue is consistant throughout the house

Hi, I had two Chamberlains with belts installed on my new builders single garage doors. The opening is pretty silent. However, when closing, in the beginning, the units make humming like noise which can be heard in the room above. The opener installer guy blamed it on cheap builders doors but my neighbors' doors are just fine-I cannot hear much.

Is it the opener or the door, and what can be done to fix it. My expectation is to have closing as silent as opening.

Thanks in advance for your detailed answer!

Located and replaced motor shaft and outfeed roller sprockets.
Roller was frozen. Pulled, polished , lubed and reinstalled. Both
now turn by hand. Motor shaft will not move. On other side, cutter drive, belt is intact and turns freely, knives turn freely with the belt. Do I have yet another problem over there? Tried
to get cover off but it won't budge. If I really must get it off, it
will come off. The day the machine went down, the motor ran freely until I turned it off. That's about all I have.....
Thanks y'all...appreciate....

Bathroom work resulted in water damage to my hardwood flooring throughout condo due to leaking pipes. Contractor admits full responsibility and their insurance company estimates damage at $10,500 (RCV) but they want to settle for $8400 by including depreciation (ACV). Estimate received by flooring company to repair is $10,200. If I accept insurance company settlement I will have to pay the additional out of pocket. Since this was the contractor's fault and it goes through their insurance, shouldn't I be entitled to full replacement settlement rather than accepting the depreciated selttlement? Since I have no blame in the matter, I believe I should not have to pay anything out of my pocket. I need to know if I can legally tell the insurance company to settle for the RCV.

I unplugged one the other day and saw the plug had gotten so hot it melted a blackened hole into the socket. I unplugged the other two and the same thing.
Obviously the cords are getting too hot. I cant live without AC. I know I need ot replace the plugs but how can I stop this from happening?

Currently, my deck has a McCluskey solid stain on it. It has not been fully reliable; winters leave holes in it. Now that Lowe's stocks the Consumer Reports top-rated stain (Cabot), I want to replace it. Also, I recently read a deck professional's online recommendations, which stated firmly to NOT use a solid stain but rather semi-transparent. But what if there already *is* a solid stain on the deck? After trying three different types of strippers, as well as having had the deck pressure-washed, I have managed to remove maybe half of the deck floor stain, and much less than half of the stain on other parts of the deck (e.g. rails). Another handyman told me that I had "no chance" of removing the stain on the parts of the deck that weren't weather-exposed. One person at Lowe's talked about using a power sander (which I don't have), but didn't make that sound too hopeful either. Am I stuck with solid stain forever (or at least until I replace the whole deck)? With the McCluskey?

My new house has very plain vanilla-colored genuine Corian countertops that are in excellent shape--except they're boring.

Since Corian sheets come in different thicknesses, couldn't an installer just bond a thin new layer onto my current countertops and clean up the edges around the sink and the bullnose with a router?

Why install all new countertops? They are structurally fine, I just want a different color.

I'm in the process of shopping around for windows to replace the existing (yet very old single pane) ones in my house. I understand there are double pane windows with and without Argon gas between the panes. However, I don't understand what the Argon gas does or why it makes the windows that have it more expensive. Incredibly, the salesman who tried to sell me the more expensive windows - the ones with Argon gas - did not know exactly what it does or why it is contained in some windows and not in others.

Please help - if you can - with plain english explanations or information.

Thank you very much for taking a minute to chime in!

I have read that you should just lay pavers on a bed of sharp sand and then brush sand mixed with dry cement between the cracks once they are all laid, finishing off by spraying with water?

My friend who is a brick layer advises to mix dry cement wioth the sand underneath the pavers?

Anyone have any advice and/or experience with this?
