Replace it with the same type as was there. If it was a 20, put in another 20. If it was a 15, put in another 15. There are various code articles covering branch circuits and receptacle ampacity. Presumably your house was wired to code. So keep it that way. How is the plug?

Dishwasher blew ? Outlet blew? I'm confused to what is actually blowing.. But at any rate, 15 amp should suffice, but often I will wire a disposal and dishwasher on the same circuit but always on a 20amp. If you are sharing a disposal on the same circuit you should consider upgrading to 20amp which will entail having the wiring removed and replaced.

As far as adding a GFCI in place for a portable dishwasher... that is the best advice I've ever came across in my 15 years of electrical experience. That guy knows his stuff.

Yes a standard 15 amp socket will work just fine.

Typically, appliances like the dishwasher, or refrigerator are placed on their own circuit. Ive even wired some dishwashers dirct to a line, without a socket. (normal installation for pre-installed dishwashers in manufactured homes)

:) Be sure to turn the power off before replacing the outlet.

Good Luck

While it may not make sense, most manufacturers recommend a 15 AMP circuit for their dishwashers.

Look in the installation manual to be sure though.

You should have a dishwasher on a twenty amp isolated circuit. You can't just replace the breaker. 15 amp circuits use 14GA wire, 20 amp uses 12GA. You must replace the wire as well.

Look at the nameplate on the dishwasher.
If it says 1300W. or less 15 Amp.s is OK.
If more, then you need a 20 amp outlet ,
wiring, (#12), and dedicated circuit,
(one with nothing else connected).

You failed to mention if this is a portable or permanent dishwasher. If it is portable then the 15A wall socket will be fine, as long as it is a GFI outlet. It should be, but if your home is older, then you'll need to install the GFI yourself.

If it is built in, then either run a dedicated circuit to it with a 20A rating or have an electrician do it for you.
