Can ceramic tile be applied over my existing formica counter tops? They are in good shape, just ugly. They are not molded, but the formica is not loose anywhere and would probably be hard to remove. Anyone have any experience with this sort of project?

I have a large deep freeze that got unplugged for several days and no one knew about it. It had meat and ice cream and other food go bad inside it and the smell is unbearable. I've cleaned it with tons of water, Pine-Sol and Nature's Miracle. I've left it running with two bags of charcoal and baking soda in it. It still reeks. I'm in serious need of advice!

I recently bought a house built in the 1960's. The inspector noted that the original center beam in the crawl space had dry rot but had been "sistered" on both sides with new beams. One of the sister beams seems to be tipping--like the top is falling out of place. All the floors in the house have a defined slope to the center. We now realize that the floor in the lower bathroom needs to be replaced as it has rotted through. Should we try to jack up the center of the house or just level the floors from the inside? We would like to replace the bathroom floor before it gets too cold. Thanks for your help!

I want to put inexpensive carpet on the floor of a storage building that has a plywood floor resting directly on the beams. Water is somehow seeping into the plywood occasionally - it appears to be from below (there is no drip from above), but underneath the building is bone dry, and because of the construction of the floor it is not feasible to tear it up and determine the source. I'd like to just ignore the problem and put in the carpet anyway. Is there a barrier material that would be suitable to put under the carpeting?

(I'm looking for a seat-of-the-pants, stopgap kind of thing -- this is only meant to last 4, maybe 8 years at best, and needs to be fairly cheap. Yes, I know it's not the ideal solution ... I just need to prevent the carpet from mildewing, I don't care what happens to the plywood since eventually the floor will need to be fixed anyway.)

I think it's been there for years. I scraped off the big pieces (eww!) but there's still some residue.

we planted a fig tree about 2 months ago and it doesn't look healthy. Hardly any new leaves, if any at all. The existing leaves are yellowing. It's in a fairly high alkali soil.

I'm sick of the guy upstairs from me. He has laminate wooden floor and clumps about all night. It's unbearable the noise, and my whole flat feels like it's shaking. His TV is up full blast too. He looks like a big scary guy (I'm female and live on my own) and i really don't want to approach him. My mate has offered me the use of her drumkit, and i'm really tempted to take it and hammer hell out of it at 3 in the morning to teach him a lesson. If he wants noise, he WILL get noise. What do you think? Would i just make things worse? Feel like i want to give him a taste of his own medicine. Thanks. x

I have to pick through a lumber pile and don't want to encounter any flesh eating spiders or the like. Is it safer in the winter? The location is S E Wisconsin and now doesn't seem like the best time. Thanks, Jim

I would like to buy a 50's style chrome dinette set. I have found many to purchase via the Internet, BUT, I want to see it first, so I don't want to buy from the Internet. I want a new one, not a used one. Does anyone know of a place in the Los Angeles area that sells them? Thank you.
