I always paint the trim and switch plate the same color, but it is a different color than the wall. The poster above paints everything the same color. So you see it all depends on what YOU like. :-)

I have this pet peeve about painting trim or switch covers same as its' wall color. To me it shows that not much time or effort was put into the job...Basically, looks cheesy. Go with a contrasting trim and either remove the plates before painting or just go by some new ones. It'll look much neater and not so bland.

It depends. Yes, it is your house and you are the one living there.. but are you asking this question because you want your house to be decorated by correct design elements? If so, then make the baseboards darker. The only time the baseboards shoudl be the same color is when you are creating an old world, italian style home. Some italian homes do not even have baseboards, and if they do, they try to blend the walls and baseboards. If you color the baseboards darker, that does not mean that you have to put a dark brown on them against your buttery color, you can always just go one to 3 shades darker. You can use that color in accents in your room: window treatments, accessories, pillows, vases, artwork...

I think it looks better if all the trim in the room is the same color.

You can go with the same color but darker. That's what I did, but it's up to you!
