In CA it is a misdemeanor for an unlicensed contractor to do more than $500 in work on a single project. This law cannot be "waived" by the customer. (California Business & Professions Code sections 7028 & 7048). But the question is this:
Can someone such as a neighbor of the homeowner report the contractor that the homeowner hired (to the Contractors State License Board, local police department, attorneys office, dept of insurance, etc,) even if they (the neighbor) have no evidence of them being payed more than $5000? If they simply see and hear weeks of work going on by that "contractor" and can prove that this contractor's license expired 8 years ago?

My hubbie thinks I am mad. I have three boxes of latex gloves dotted around our house and I wear them for pretty much everything. I just find stuff like cooking raw meat, emptying trash and cleaning the house without them gross. I think I wear about 4-5 pairs a day. Is this THAT weird?

My three girls love to be read to in the tub. But, after a while, the books get all moldy and gross! I've tried cleaning them with bleach and I've even put them in the washing machine. Nothing works; I'd hate to have to throw them out. Help!

I have greased, unpluged, checked the worm gear, opened it manualy to make sure no restriction exist. It will come up about 2 feet and stop. I can hit the remote again and then it will continue upward. I have turned the pressure up button wide open but nothing has helped it. Anyone one have any Ideas on what to try next or what it could be. Thanks

I have Lantana in Austin, and end up losing it every winter to a freeze, but I know I have seen Lantana that is ignored and comes back every year. Does anyone know what is the proper care in this area for Lantana? Do you prune it back, leave it alone, mulch, cover.... What??? I love the big plant I have now and do not want to have to replace it again next year!

Someone told my brother-in-law they only use rotten tomatoes in their septic tank, no chemicals. They apparently have never had to have their tank pumped. Wondering if this actually works...

I didn't plant them until sometime in July - the plants are huge, the leaves are big as dinner plates, there are buds for flowers, but I was supposed to plant them much earlier in the year.

The plants are growing very quickly and spreading out, but there are no small pumpkins developing yet. I'm wondering if I'll have to go pumpkin shopping for Halloween.

I've asked for advise about growing watermelon before and I got some good advise. I searched around and basically everyone suggest the same tips on picking the fruit. The question I have is does it have to be yellow underneath to be ripe? I think I've seen some store melons without the yellow belly. I put a board under the melon to stop the bottom from rotting on the ground. That was another tip by the way, but I'm sure it's ready to pick. I barely see any tendrils near the top that turn brown. It's a large melon, but it's not yellow underneath. I'm sure I can still pick it right? It's about 20 inches long and 27 inches in width.
How about the thick stem connected to the melon? It's a bit brown.
I have other melons coming. I hope watering daily or every other day is the right thing for them. Appreciate any help.

We live in the Midwest and our basement has just flooded for the third time in less than a year. This time will cost us almost $10,000 to recover. And no, we do not have flood insurance. While we were cleaning up our basement this last time, I have noticed some serious cracks in our basement walls. Is this something serious with the foundation? Should we unload this house now, or would it be worth it to stay and fix it up?
