I have the same problem. It tends to happen to me in the summer time when I'd much rather be outdoors in my beloved garden. Indoor chores become just that: CHORES! What helps me is for someone outside the family to give me three days notice that they are coming over to the house. That's all I need to become a cleaning dynamo! I take one room at a time to pick up and clean, leaving the bathrooms for last.

Is there anyone in your life that you observe as being neat and organized? Ask her/him for insight and suggestions. But overall, change like that comes from within, and YOU CAN CHANGE. You just have to want it bad enough, because all the suggestions in the world won't help you if you won't stick to the program. And that will to stick has to come from within.
My sister and I were just talking about this tonight. When my bedroom dresser is junky, I feel so messed up that I forget things and will inevitably bounce a check or something.
One of my favorite words is: purge. If you have clothes or textiles that you won't use, throw or give them away. Magazines and newspapers -- recycle them, don't hold onto them. The only things worth keeping from your mailbox are bills and letters from friends -- the rest is "junk mail" so junk it immediately. I keep a brown paper bag in the kitchen, right where I open the mail, for that very purpose. Limit the number of shoes by the door to 4 pairs -- when you see it going over that limit, put the shoes in a closet. And do you like the way your house looks when it's neat and orderly? Take pictures of your tidy house and post them on your refrigerator to remind you of that good feeling.

I wouldn't say horrible slob... just 'no care'.... that's how I was... but then, I never had friends over or other company, dinner parties, etc.... so why bother?..... but I do love FlyLady... and I have improved.... like the other poster, I'd really rather be outside... doing ANYTHING but cleaning!!... now, tho, I'm starting to declutter, too, which is a giant step to making cleaning easier!.... don't worry.. it will come to you.. do read FLyLady, tho.... it does help us.....

Do you look at the state of your home and despair at the extent of the problem? Take it little chunks at a time, like a 15-minute clean. (Yup, from Flylady.) It's starting to work for me.
Also, you might want to check and see if you have other issues that are manifesting as slovenly living.

Work every morning for 15 minutes as hard and as fast as you can. Treat it like a workout. Don't stop for any reason. You will be amazed at what happens!!! I promise you won't believe the results.

You must have more discipline. There's no excuse for living like a filthy pig - it's disgusting - you should be ashamed.
Start cleaning and stick to it. You'll feel MUCH better about yourself in ways you don't yet know. Living clean will change your life for the better ~ now get to work.
