We are looking to remove an existing gas fire, We are not on the mains but use bottled gas for the fire and also our central heating. We then want to replace with a log burner which we already have. How do we go about it and how much will it cost. I would guess that the fire place will need opening up and swept but that is as much as I know. Any help would be appreciated.

My plum tree (healthy until the compost was placed nearby), my camelia, and even some nasturtiums have become very unhealthy, the camelia nearly dead, the plum with dying branches. Even the nasturtiums have failed to thrive. Could this be caused by an imbalance in the soil due to leeching from the compost? I have moved the bin, and the camelia, but the tree looks very ill. What can I do to correct the soil if this is in fact so, and if not, any ideas what could be causing this? A neighbour's lilac tree also died this spring, only feet from this bin. It is normal garden and kitchen waste. Help please!!

This microwave will be going above an electic stove with its own dedicated line 60amp. However, I have 20amp service to the rest of the kitchen.

Should I just make a receptical high enough so the microwave plug doesnt dangle? Or are they usually hard-wired?

I have been renting a house that uses propane for the heater, oven, stove, water heater and dryer. So far I have loved having propane instead of the electric and have had no problems. We paid $250 bucks to set up an account and fill the tank half way in March and still have 30% left.

Now we are wanting to purchase a two story house and were wondering

how much does it generally cost to convert a house from electric to propane? I know there are lots of variables and was wondering the high cost and low cost.

What rules and regulations are there to having a propane tank on the property?

The house we are most likely going to purchase is kind of a 1.5 story, imagine a right triangle shaped house instead of a square. There is no basement, and everything is electric.

Does anyone have any ideas for stopping (or minimizing) heat transfer through a sliding glass door?

I live in Phoenix, AZ. I own a condo with a sliding glass door to the backyard. During the day I can feel the heat coming through the glass. I have vertical blinds on the door that stops some of the heat, but it still gets really hot in the room.

The door is in the shade 95% of the time...it's mostly just the hot air. So putting an additional shade in front of it won't do much good.

Any ideas of additional methods for keeping out the heat? Anything I can add/put onto/put in front of the door to slow down the heat transfer?

Thanks!

I was hemming my daughter's pants with hemming tape and didn't realize some was sticking out. Now it is stuck on my iron. Is there any way to get it off, or do I have to get a new iron?

I have been considering brick or pavers but everyone says they should be installed by a pro but I think if I hire someone with a bobcat to dig, lay gravel base then tamp sand it is a doable project for a senior citizen

I live in a dorm room 8'5" by 11' The unit has no over head light, only a desk light. A friend said that when redoing her house they were required to have overhead lights in rooms that were a certain size. I was wondering if my room is against code.

The tree is so large, half of it hangs over my property. If we got another big storm (who knows in Chicagoland) they could brake off and fall on our garage and/or autos. Who's responsible for getting the branches cut off? Is it totally theres? Should we offer to pay for half? I don't want to be a jerk about it. This probably needs to be taken care of before we get a heavy snowfall...
