If tile is out, then I would say linoleum.
Carpet would begin to smell, get crunchy and gross...
Hardwood would rise, and leave bumps which would mean the whole wood would have to be replaced.

Laminate flooring is a good choice and looks great, it's cheap nowadays, like 89 cents a foot for the off brands, installation is fairly easy if you have some skills, It's not real wood so doesnt swell as bad as real hardwoods do, but they still do expand with the seasons. If you dont have any skills, then the standard peel and stick lanolium is fine, but mainly for kitchens and baths. There are carpet tiles that are easy to install that are made of non pourus man made materials that dont absorb or soak.

Try laminate. It's easy to clean and it'll take the abuse.
Have had it for 6 years and still looks new considering all the traffic and kids with hard toys and pets.
Not sorry we installed it.

the laminate would be a good choice if the pet puddles are being wiped up right away. if they are not, the urine is going to soak thru the seams in the laminate and inti the underlayment. remember, laminate is water resistant, not water proof.

I hate tile also. you can get sheet or squares in linoleum
the no wax has a coating to make it look shiney and the animal
mess is easy to clean up. hardwood may stain.
